Just curious but how does anyone know how a cat judges distances and heights ie. how do they know they can jump onto something and not go over the top or fall short?

Watching my cat Noodle today just amazes me how she lands exactly on the head of our bed without going over or falling off.

Lets face it have you ever seen a cat on a fence having a problem and wobbling about.

Maybe she has tried the jump before and mastered it.

The two forward facing eyes have overlapping fields of vision so a cat can judge distances and have 3D vision like we do. Binocular vison it is called.

(They are more shortsighted than us so beyond a few hunded metres is blurred for them. They have better night vision and are more sensitive to movement - good for short range hunting.)
