CCTV advice...

Hi,

There have been a few burglaries in the area and for this reason i am considering a CCTV system. The thing is I dont know much about them (searching the net as i type!) so i'm after a bit of advice.

I would like a system with a min of 3 outdoor cameras giving a good picture quality in the day and night. I would like this system to record automatically to a box (maybe only on detection of movement?), be able to view images on the internet/phone. What system would you guys recommend? Are there any brands to go for or avoid?

Any ideas for costs involved- for the system alone and fully fitted?

Thank you for reading and any advice!

Waste of time, One hoodie looks the same as any other to a cctv
In fact when they see all the cameras they will break in to see what your trying to protect

they do yes, but you do need to spend on some great cameras to get a good picture and you will get them in the day time.., but even ones with UV LED's (lots of em) at night time you wont see their face.

I have 3 set up, with a 24/7 DVR, 500gb drive on h.264 is about 2 weeks of recording at max res.

Our drive has a security light so though the UV camera works great at night, as soon as someone walks on our drive the light comes on and its just like daylight, so you get to see all.. same as our back garden one..

the one overlooking the side of the house is helped at night by the street lamp.

cameras - about 75-100 each
DVR- £100 ish, without hard drive
cables and power supplies 30 ish..

takes about a day to install and route all the wires around your house, tacking em in...

happy to help if you like

will even let you see my cameras if you PM me

er......thats why they sell covert cameras or mount them where people wont easily spot them

I too am thinking of buying a system, its not only for burglars but to see whats happened during the day ie, any scrappies calling, people tresspassing etc, quite usefull especially if cameras are hidden

so they arent a deterrent then? You'll still get burgled.

probably a safer bet to use covert and overt cameras then

Be aware the burglars might actually break in and steal the cctv system oO

you can pick it all up on eBay. I'll hook out the specs of my cameras and find the current equivelant,

the DVR is amazing for the price, i actually had a much more expensive one which broke down just out of warranty, this one was £100, is higher resolution and if you need it, completely numpty proof lol..

one of these or similar: 350452735566

or possibly this for a kit: 110684509805
