hi, hope its ok to post this in here, not exactly deal related! but its regarding a co' a lot of us have used before they went bust.....and i need some advice .... anyhow just recieved a letter today form "spratt endicott" solictors who are acting on behalf of CDISCOUNT who have gone into liquidation...

heres just the 1st paragraph..

"we act on behalf of the above mentioned client who has instructed us concerning the ammount due to them for 67.00 in respect of a payment failed or declined by your bank/card issuer..."

it does go on with i have to pay in 7 days or esle etc... but there is no mention of what the payment is for, no dates etc nothing!! i have orderd a few items form cdiscount which you can pay by installments, but i have no record of any payments i made been declined...
they are saying the debt is overdue

i dont have to pay them without knowing what it is for or the dates they say the payments were decline do

double check your bank account and make sure the payments have gone out, if they haven't for some reason, pay up. if they have, contact spratt endicott and ask what the payment is for

http://www.sprattendicott.co.uk/contact/index.html

Ring them and ask for confirmation of what the items are it refers to and the dates the payment were originally due, that should be enough for you to work out if the demand is genuine or not.

ignore it, once you aknowledge them you are gonna be in debt .......if you dont and they dont have all the details they cant do nothing

ive been getting letters from some company about a debt over 10 years ago.......its been to court and i had a ccj it has since been written off yet this company under numerous different guises (pretty much same address) keep sending threatening letters ......this has been happening for about a year and a half since i returned to the uk..........if they havnt quoted specifics then its highly unlikely they even know what the debt is for if they dont know what the debt is for then they arenmt gonna be able to prove it especially aftter the company has gone.....they will have purchases a load of "debts" at a very cheap price and will pursue hoping some will pay

Yours is slightly different, as your debt would now be statute barred I think it is, so they couldn't claim it anyway, if you don't acknowledge it. As you had no contact with regards to the debt for 6 years.

But unless op is planning to move away he does need to sort it really or risk more debt or a ccj. He needs to get them to prove the debt, if they can't do that then there is no debt.

Debt collectors are a pain in the rear, hate them, nothing but grief I had even though I proved 100 times over my ID had been stolen and was being used at an old address, from a year previous.

Those people on MSE, will give you good advice op as to what to do next, or even consumer forums.

i would only start worrying once they have made clear what the debt is for........they havnt done so they are trying to get him to acknowledge the debt.......ring them up etc then he is screwed and will have to pay

his choice but i would ignore it until something of some substance turns up if it ever does
