CDiscount - WAKE UP - Lets help them out here.......

OK, I absolutely love CDiscount but they are giving themselves a bad reputation which we can help them fix. Their prices are great, the deals they do make them better than any other e-tailer out there and there 3 payment scheme rocks....

So where are they going wrong?

Firstly - (and most importantly), their choice of courier....

Home Delivery Network
As a customer I want to know my purchase is going to get here fast and in one peice, that's never going to happen with the Home Delivery Network (HDN), I placed an order a few weeks back and after 4 days it never arrived, on the 5th day I got a card, but woh...No collection depot? Every decent courier in the land (DHL, parcelforce, Citylink, Interlink etc) has a collection depot... So I rang and arranged a re-delivery, they couldn't do next day (this was a thursday) so I was told I would have to wait till monday next week, it came on Tuesday.... That's not my only bad experience of HDN.

XDP Express
On Monday I ordered 3 LCD TV's totalling over £1300, I got my tracking from CDiscount same-day (good work), except that when I clicked the link on the tracking it took me to HDN, but it kept saying not recognised, so on wednesday I rang Cdiscount, spoke to a friendly guy who said it was despatched on Tuesday by 48hr with XDP, So I took today off work to await delivery, so at 9am I rang XDP and asked for a rough time of delivery, a VERY rude woman asked for the consignment number and told me she didn't know when it would get here, I said I had taken the day of work so can she atleast check it will be here today otherwise I'll go to work and earn some money, she said it might be today or it might be tuesday she can't check !

CDiscount claim they are europes largest e-tailer yet they are letting themselves down by using couriers that don't think about their customers....

As a business myself I only use DHL, although I can recomend City-Link (they've got much better recently) and also parcelforce are good, not sure about others....I do know to also AVOID fastway, what a joke they are. Also every Fed-Ex delivery I get seems to come damaged, filthy or soaking (probably something to do with their vans as the back lifts up meaning water can easily get in the back of the van)

Secondly, so that's the delivery lark out of the way, the other area that needs improving is staff training, I rang and asked about the HUKD code (£20 of every £100 spend), I wanted to know if I spent £1300 and used £120 in vouchers I had if the £20 would be based on the total before or after the vouchers, the repsonse was 'I think it's the first total'. I think really isn't good enough, i;d rather save the coupon's for something else if it's not so I need a definite answer......

I've seen a few threads and heard stories about their customer services being poor, no-where near to the standard of Amazon or Play.... (but then not as bad as BT/Dabs)...

Share your stories and give ideas..... I'd really like to see them improve so I can conitnue to use them going forward.....

If the things improve then the prices would go up.

I Pay £5 per DHL Delivery, they charge £4.99....I only send 20 a day so with their volumes they should even be able to get it down to £3.50 or something.....

I would personally gladly pay £1 extra to know it's coming with a decent courier

Lack of communication I think is a problem with them.. I ordered two desks at the same time. One arrived there was no sign of the other. We had two ring them 2 days later as there was no sign of the other one, we were told it had been sent so after waiting almost a week we had to ring them again. This time they said it had been damaged in transit so had given us a refund. OK but we had had no emails or nothing off them, we then had to ring them again and re order another one. bit of a palava but we got there.. eventually

lol, nice to hear it's not all bad with them, The lack of collection depot' is a really downside for me... working 9-5 makes it difficult to be in for deliveries...Sadly I can't get stuff delivered to my work

Delivery services tend to vary greatly depending where you live. HDN are not the best around but I've never had much trouble with them. They have even tried re-deliveries after 6PM.

City Link are very poor locally, turn up at different times every day - can be 9 AM one day 4 PM the next - often in a white van and they moved the depot 10 miles further away in an awful location!

DHL are good but I doubt they would deliver, say, a 42" Plasma TV for anything near what HDN charge!

If courier companies upset you, the best way to avoid them is not to shop online. :)

HDN are great around here driver is really good , i beleive they are the cheapest courier in the UK, if they started to charge £5 a delivery then people would start moaning about that wouldnt they ?

I've not had a problem with them myself.

But if others have then that's the whole idea of a buyers market and they then go elsewhere to someone who offers a better service and deserves the trade. :)

DHL will post parcels up to 1.5m in length, I currently have a 42" LCD on ebay funnily enough which is being sent with DHL for £5!

I mean the overall price, not just the delivery charge (which as we all know could be anything, it's the total price that matters)
