Me and my boyfriend were planning on going abroad this year but thanks to a rather large and unexpected car repair bill that isn't going to happen.

We have now decided to go to Center Parcs for a short break instead and we are thinking about going to Sherwood Forest. We usually go to Elveden as that is closest to us but we are a bit bored of it now.

We have never been to Sherwood Forest so I am just looking for some honest opinions on it. We are looking at staying in one of the New Style Woodland Lodges or Apartments. Has anyone stayed in these? Are they worth the extra cost?

Thanks

Doesn't Center Parks cost more than going abroad??

I have stayed at S Forest CP and it is a beautiful setting; but standards Center Parks.

I would look around for a holiday abroad still TBH as I'm sure you could find one cheaper than CP.

It would be about £200 each to go to CP and the holidays abroad we were looking at were around £500 each. To be honest, I would rather just go to CP and start saving up again once we get back rather than go on a cheap holiday abroad this year. At least if we start saving again by next Sep / Oct we will have enough money to go abroad somewhere amazing.

CP Elveden is nice but we have been about six times now in five years and it has got a bit dull being in the same surroundings, we like CP so we definitely want to try a different "village" and Nottingham is the next closest to us.

if you're rich, don't go there. I dont know if it's old news now but i hear there's someone there who robs from the rich and gives to the poor.

Been to Sherwood pines a couple of times and really like it. I haven't stayed in the woodland lodge or apartments as they are a bit expensive for my taste! I'm not sure how different the parks are to each other.

I really enjoy the swimming and have been to do archery both times and finished off the weekend with an afternoon in the spa - highly recommended! I went a few weekends ago when it was really sunny and we had BBQ's every night as the weather was good. We paid a small extra fee to be fairly close to the village centre - only 5 mins walk. We didn't hire bikes as not fans of biking and if you're the same then I would recommend paying this extra fee.

You are also very close to Rufford Abbey country park and Sherwood Forest country park if you fancied seeing a bit of the surrounding area - less than 5 mins drive to either.

Sherwood is my favourite as well, I like the layout and the dog likes the number of squirrels - if you've enjoyed Elveden then I'd definitely recommend Sherwood. Only stayed in the standard accomodation in the dog area so I've no idea what the fancier lodges are like.

We have been going there for the last 13 years approx. Have also been to oasis whinfell and are going (for the first time) to longleat later this year.

If you have any specific questions about sherwood send me a pm

Sherwood has changed a lot in the last 2 years, more commercial and not as woody as it was, but still really good. They have invested a lot of money into doing it up, the sports place is brilliant and the spa often wins a competition between the centerparcs spas (according to someone who works in the oasis whinfell spa)

Dont suggest going to Strada, the place has 0 atmosphere and the staff werent up to centerparcs standards when we were last there. Not just a bad experience though, the way it is decorated, seating arrangements, music etc just meant that there was no atmosphere and the prices didnt match the settings.

We always stay in the 2 floored executive villas, not the new designs though, and would definitely recommend them. They are quite close to the centre, but not too close that you get any foot traffic. You also get to leave your car there all week, which is useful especially on first and last day. Lots of wildlife around there because its quietish and there is a small lake at the back. Also close to the archery centre and spa.
