CEX Dodgy Tactics

So I went in to CEX today to sell my Wii and I even phoned up and asked if I was ok to do so.

Low and behold when I got to the store I was given the old line "Sorry, we don't have any cash", which I was sort of expecting after reading about it on here.

So ladies and gentlemen, are there any sneaky tactics I can use to actually get some cash for it?

Either sell it here, or send it to Cex's online department.

Online say the same thing once they have the item, and if you dont want vouchers they charge you postage to get it back

Yeah that's why I didn't bother. However I don't understand why the shop and the HQ don't have any cash. I'm sure there is a massive safe round the back.

I haven't used them much, but i've had only negative responses in the store, whilst my online ones have been fine.

About 4pm. After a nice days trading, I'd thought they have quite a bit.

Dodgy tactics.

They never have cash - thats what they do so you take the credit

Dodgy CEX? Never. They will be taking stolen phones next. It has more in common with Cash Converters than GAME.

At the end of the day - they seriously might not have the cash!

Every company has to have a float, and then your money on top of that. Cex is mainly trade ins. They could have easily spent the day trading and buying stock, so when you came in they had no money left.

I used to work at GAME, and if people caught us on a bad day when they were trying to sell a console we would have to say we don't have the cash. We don't care if you sell or trade or whatever, GAME makes enough profit on it anyway.

When i traded my Wii in ages ago the guy had a huge wad of £20 notes behind the till, must have had a good few thousand £

Same but they barely had enough

The stores are a joke when trading in for cash.

I fully understand that it could be a possibility, but with the reputation of CeX is not hard to think they might be telling a lie.

Go early in the morning, i say, even wait outside for them to open. they SOMETIMES will trade cash because you can argue
"Why are you opening then if you don't have no cash, what if someone wants to return a faulty item worth 200+ for cash?"

Cex online is great. Sold over £300 worth of stuff and always received my cash.

Shame they take forever sometimes. :-( They're on a real go slow at the moment.

Duh, they don't mean they literally have no cash, it's just that managers are probably told to balance the buying and selling so that the amount of cash in is three or four times the amount of cash out- they also use it as a deterrent- anyone they don't want to buy from can be told 'we've no cash'. Me, i'm in there a couple of times a week, have a card, have traded a couple of thousands worth of stuff, have sold probably a grands worth of stuff, and so have never been told 'theres no cash' (even when people before me in the queue have been told that lol)
It's a pretty good business model, but I bet they drop all their buying prices across the board sometime in the new year- and become more about selling than buying.

Without doubt IMO. Prices seem too good for buying products, but that does mean that they end up selling IMO for too high a price.

So you have to pay for your items to be shipped and they will test them, and if any are not needed by them they will ship it back at their cost?
#25
I sent a bunch of things almost a month ago courier, they recieved 22 days ago and yet they still show as "waiting for delivery" on the website, and each I phone they give the usual excuse their systems are slow and it will be sorted in 2 days.

They did this when I sold some things to them 3 months ago too.

I sold a lot of staffs to them recently, and there was only one time they told me they run out of cash (that was Saturday around 4pm; the guy did say it was a busy day and if I went slightly earlier, they will be able to give me cash; and told me to come back again on Monday morning). So, overall, I can't complaine about their service.

ive never had issues with selling stuff to CEX - but their stores are manky so i stick to sending in via online.

i use DHL couriers, they always get the goods the next day, and recently they have been processing my orders the same day, and sending a voucher the next day, and cash within 3 days.

ive sent in thousands of pounds worth of goods, mainly for cash but sometimes credit too, and never had any major problems. occasionally items ive bought have taken some time to come, and they wont replace for 28 days, but apart from that they are ok.

and right now a lot of stores have little cash as nobody is buying. even if someone takes the credit if they have no cash, they are using up the credit only, and not adding much if anything to it.

i.e. when i had some credit to spend instore, i tried to get right on the money, sometimes i owe a pound or two, but that isnt gonna help them really. same online - buy items, send the voucher back in, and get it all put back onto my debit card.

btw you never get charged for items sent back. as long as you mark that any unwanted items are to be returned, they always pay and send via courer or recorded delivery. so right now you are best of sending your Wii via online.

also you have to realise they are getting 100s of orders each day with people wanting cash or credit, so sometimes it may take a few days for cash.

if you want your order sorted quicker, in my experience you should write your order number on the front of the package - it seems to get the item sorted quicker.

ryouga - if you sent via courier then surely you have proof they have it? just ring up and ask to talk to Jo Leslie in E-Commerce - she will have it sorted.

or put a post uo on their forums - Jo usually gets stuff sorted once on there.
#28
didnt realise they had forums, and I told girl on phone I had proof it had been recieved and she just said its system problems and it will definatly be sorted in 2 days(each time I phone)
#29
I should maybe retract my initial statement. I phoned up about it earlier in the morning to see if they had cash which they did. So I went into the store and sold it. No hassles whatsoever.

So maybe I did just go in at the wrong time.

I went in today with Assassin's Creed PS3 to get cash (£33) and the guy who served me said he didn't know if they had cash, the person next to him said "no way, no cash" but the guy on the end (manager i think) said "Assassin's Creed? Yeah give him cash" So i guess they use the "no cash" excuse for items they either have a lot of or just don't want.
