CEX Phone Blocked

Before you read this, please check out my other thread regarding this same issue!

So yet again, I purchased a phone from CEX (completely different order) and its signal stops working, the phone is blocked! I purchased the phone on the 10th of Feb, has been working perfectly, but since last week the phone stopped sending and receiving text messages/phone calls.

I tried a couple of different sim cards in the phone and none of them worked. I decided to do a check with checkmend and it comes up as blacklisted/reported lost or stolen.

Just my luck or what 2nd time now. First time it was blocked when i received it, was returned and refunded the same day. This time it got blocked after a few weeks.

To my surprise, I have never had a phone blocked that I or any of my friends/family have purchased of eBay. And in less than 3 months I have had 2 phones blocked from CEX. Seems like people are trying to make quick cash off cex then reporting to insurance!

In case someone is curious, it was an s7 both times.

moral of the story is not to buy from CEX. CEX is a known recipient of stolen goods.

Stop buying second hand phones would be a good idea.

It isn't cex's fault, they'll have the sellers personal info, so if they wanted to pursue them in court then they could do. Im sure if you contact cex they'll refund you for this?.

This is the risk when buying used phones regardless where from.

If someone gets a new phone with a contract and instantly sells it on ebay, to cex or wherever, i believe they can do a lost/stolen insurance claim even 1 year down the line. The operators should have a bit of common sense on this though, for example if the same sim card (not the one that came with the contract) was used in the phone way before they made the lost/stolen claim, then they should question the person claiming a little deeper. I don't think you're allowed to sell a contracted phone either until your contract has finished.

CEX is the worst company in the world, with the worst employees. If cancer was a business it'd be called CEX.
They probably wont even refund you. Best option is to chargeback when they say no.

Another good idea would be to not post unhelpful comments.

In that case, carry on. Can't wait for the 3rd installment. X)

So is there a way of reporting it to the police whilst getting your money back from CEX?

I'd put it down to bad luck.
Cex will be more prone to this as they can't do chargebacks on prospective sellers. Whereas Paypal on eBay can.
So the dishonest take the easier route but less profit.
Had it done to me with an iPhone 4 a few years ago. Though I do know that Cex screen the phone through Check Mend, so they try to be diligent enough.

I was thinking the same, but i dont think they will do anything about it, as i personally dont even think its cex's faulty, just the scum who claim!

I just want to know what procedures cex has in place to get the seller back, do they order them to pay back the money they were paid.. get done for fraud?? Am sure all put together, with the owner and cctv maybe they could prosecute the owner? I did ask them last time and they said they have another team who will deal with this..

Sorry. I get bored of my phones really quick and change phones (colours) every other month lol, and cannot really afford to buy brand new ones each time lol.

I've had two phones become blocked from buying on ebay. One was a Nokia Lumia 830, which became blocked 4 weeks after buying, and the other was a Galaxy A5 2016 (which was New and Sealed), which became blocked after 3 1/2 months of use.

Ebay refunded me for the first, and PayPal refunded me for the second.

I don't think they even have to do an insurance claim. You just don't have to pay the network bill for a few months and the network will block it if it's a contract phone

CEX should state in their terms that the seller needs to either provide photo ID when selling a phone or allow the store to take a photo of the seller with the phone. This should deter the bad sellers thus reducing victim buyers

You need to take it back to the store so they can report it and maybe report it yourself to the police aswell in hopes the person who did gets their comeuppance, you could be buying phones brought in by the same person.

They should be able to unblock phones if you have a proof of purchase from somewhere like CEX, rather then stopping crime its just doubled it, as now you get the insurance jobs and the poor sods who brought the thing getting ripped off too, blocked phones get used anyway, they can still be sold for spares so the druggies who nick em off people in the street can still get the money for their fix, or trade the phones for em.

Don't understand this - is the phone blocked from working (is this possible as I thought it was only the sim)?

The phone gets blocked from accessing the network by the original provider - so you can't use it as a phone. You can still access it and use the other features.
