Unfortunately, he has served his time according to the law and the sentence he was given so he should not be judged when it comes to obtaining work. However, I personally think he should have had his hands cut off, been chemically castrated and hobbled for his crime.

What a joke of a world we live. He raped someone! Should have his balls cut off!

What if he wins his appeal? It's not like you can stock them back on?

Should he spend the rest of his life on the dole?

What jobs do you think a criminal who has served his time should be allowed to do?

I agree with toshapetriji, he's paid for his crime in the eyes of the law so should be allowed to pursue a career of his choosing. That doesn't stop me despising the scum for his actions but I'd rather see him forgotten about and playing football than being in the news every week and not - this does far more harm to the poor girl who's life is being destroyed.

it's her and her family I feel sorry for, he will be on the news every time he scores

Technically he's out on licence. Another 2 years to go.

Misc and facts don't get in the way of a good bicker.

What about Chad Evans family, they have feelings too? He's done his prison sentence and is rightly being allowed to earn his living again. If he worked down Tesco's would you be happy then or do you think he should be forced to sign on and claim off the taxpayers for the rest of his life?..

Did the crime and has now done the time.
It's irrelevant what his income is (or will be). The rules should apply to everyone equally, be they an unemployed rapist, or a wealthy footballing rapist.
Can't excuse his actions, but at least he was convicted and imprisoned for some time, unlike other cases where there is some doubt over the verdict.

How would that make us any better than the barbarians we are dealing with?

Normally I would say that he'd done his time and should be allowed to return to his profession, however in this case I have reservations. Firstly he is adamant that what he did was not rape, and he is appealing the decision. This appeal is being funded by his fiancee's father. When I read what he did that night,( and he doesn't dispute what happened he just doesn't accept that it was rape) I was disgusted, I would have found him guilty without a shadow of a doubt. I think his appeal needs to be decided before he signs for any club. If his appeal is dismissed then he has to acknowledge his guilt, while he is adamant what he did was not rape he should not pay for any club. If his appeal is successful, then he should be allowed to resume his career, and we should accept that money talks.

Hang on, doesn't this open the door to all sorts of claims by people looking to get rich quick by shagging a famous/wealthy person and then claiming rape afterwards?

Mike Tyson had to show repentance and converted to Islam.
Ched still insists he did nothing wrong.
maybe he didn't? are you sure about the Islam thing?

Not sure what converting to Islam has got to do with it. What if Ched become Jewish, would help!oO

Can see both sides. He's served his sentence (or what was deemed appropriate), so he should be allowed to return to his chosen profession.

However on the flip side of the coin. If a doctor, teacher, nurse, police officer committed such a crime they wouldn't be allowed to return to the occupation.

I'm on the fence, with the law as it is he's more than entitled to return to football. But kids look at footballers as idols the way they should look at nurses etc and as such similar rules maybe should apply to professional sports people.

Not at all, he says what he did was not rape, the jury said otherwise. It's now up to him to prove the jury was wrong to convict him. This wasn't a straight forward **** gone wrong, this was a deliberate act on his part. According to him his 'only crime' was cheating on his girlfriend, now her father wants to pay for an appeal to change this decision. I can't blame him, I wouldn't want a rapist in my family either, but that's what he is.

He has served his time, and they clearly think he is safe to be put back into society. He his also on license. He will - contrary to what services will tell you - be watched for the rest of his life by the authorities. He is also in the public eye........ nearly everyone knows who he is now for the wrong reason. He should be allowed to play football. As for setting an example, there are many people out there who have done the same crime, and they have gone back to their place of work.
If he did the crime - I have no faith in our judicial system, however it is better than nothing - he has served his time ----- LET HIM PLAY

P.S. I have a family member who accused someone of the same crime, she told me years later, she lied for the attention. I told the authorities but they did nothing, as she denied telling me with such grace.

If your a guy today with money, keep away from women unless you are fitted with a surveillance camera... ;)

Very harsh. Maybe women who have abortions for no medical reason should have their legs glued together ? Where will it end... ?

He's not in a place of trust on a field of men, I think you can say the chances of him doing the same act on another footballer is highly unlikely......

So you think if a guy that raped a woman and had his balls cut off, if he made her pregnant and she aborted she should be penalised and have legs glued shut?

He's not a very good role model to kids, fans taking their small children to latics will hear the abuse from the opposition, try explaining that to your child what they are chanting.
it's not a good move by oldham
