Just received letter from 3 that billing is changing to ebilling. If you still want to receive the paper bills they will charge £1 extra. This could be a reason to get out of the 3 copntract.

how could this get me out of my contract???
i am very interested as i started a new 18 month contract
#2
i don't think it will be as it doesn't have a massive impact on your overall bill, but still voted hot as it may work :)
#3
Has anyone tried this??
#4
as already said I don't think you'll be able to cancel as there anren't significant price increases etc.
#5
well there putting the price of billing up if you dont use direct debit, not good.
#6
whats the rule for cancellation? is it over 10-15% of the usual cost?

Only asking as im on ten quid a month contract.....
#7
i think it is more like 20%+
#8
i pay £27 a month by direct debit, how would i be able to get out of my contract?
#9
Makes little difference to me now as I can give them 30 days notice in 8 days time.

3 have been, by far, the worst operator I have ever had to deal with.

They could give me a contract, reduced by 90% per month and I still wouldn't take it as they are just soooooo amazingly poor with their customer services.

I took out an 18 month contract last year with half price line rental automatically attached, purchased from 3's own website. After 6 months they started billing me full price so I rang to complain, spent 30 minutes on the phone trying to rephrase the problem so that they could understand just to be told I would get a call back from billing in 72 hours. The problem was resolved but I have had to call them every threee months as they said they can only attach the promotion for three months at a time.

Sorry to rant but I will never use them again. :viking:

Also, there is an old thread on the changes at Three here.

Completely agree with you, i don't mind companies outsourcing but i can't understand a word they say.

Extra charges are £4 for none direct debit, £1 for paper billing and all contract move to 1 minute minimum billing from 23/09.

And the thing is , you have to be on direct debit , to waive out of the paper billing and save a quid a month :x
#13
ive emailed the exec office, im not happy at the changes, they will cost me more money a month.

theres lots of good deals out there at the moment.
#14
the possible way out is the change to "per second" billing....now for calls under 59 secs, they will round it up to 1 minute....then bill per second therafter.....which means "goodbye" to all those cheap calls we make e.g.
"where are you?"
"when will you be home?"
"I'm at the shops, be home in five"
so basically where you used to get 6 x 10 second calls in a minute of usage the same calls will now cost you 6 minutes of your usage...pretty detrimental if you ask me....hopefully an expert will be along soon

I'm an expert... just not with this.

:-D

Good luck to those who manage it. I'll give them a call and argue the toss when I get home from work.

It doesn't matter if I don't manage it as I can give them my notice on the 20th August anyway.

Time to get the o2 sim me thinks.

theres a thread on MSE in the mobile section and it appears that some people have been able to cancel their contract because of the "per second" billing....NOT the pay for statements bit....they are also posting details on what to write in your letter/email and where to post it.

We have 3 Three mobiles in our family, we got pretty good contracts to start with, plus made a fair bit thru Quidco and RAF....so don't know if we really want to leave them....lol

snippet from the MSE site:
If you put your notice to quit to them in writing you will save all the hassle of them trying to talk you out of it.

Put in the letter you want to cancel without cancellation charge under section 10.1 (d) of the conditions following receipt of their notification of the increase in charge for itemised billing. Ask them to confirm receipt of your notice, and to confirm the cancellation. Send it rcorded delivery.

Not true. They will stop sending itemized bills in the future (only simplified ones),however if you want them still then you have the option for £1.
Either way you can always see your bills in details online.(I have just spoken to the customers service)

Could you please point me to the relevant thread on MSE. I am having a tough time finding it there.

The MSE thread can be found here: - it's been going quite a while since rumours about the charges started, and only recently have they started discussing the fact that letters have been coming through

there you go (I hope I've done it right)

Good for you meliat.

I tried last night but their systems were down.

It's a shame really as potentially they offer the best value for money, tariff wise but obviously at the expense of customer services.

The story goes,

i have a nokia 6288 (thats knackered!!!) on £20 texter. phoned on my lunch to cancel

12.30 kept on hold for 30 mins and had to put the phone down........lunchtime over!!!!

7.30 spoke to customer services who were worse than useless!!! (said i had to pay fees and all that)

7.45 finally got through to the "customer options and told them i wanted to cancel (they gave me the fees and charges speil but all you have to say is "section 10.1 of terms and that shuts them up!!!"

this is what i got offered.

£5 discount per month - i said no
upgrade brought forward to november - i said no
change my price plan (to one more expensive with less texts) - i said no

they then asked me what i wanted..
i said....to change to £15 mix n match 300 & get a nokia 6500 slide.

at first they agreed the price plan!!!
but said i couldnt have the phone... so i said cancel it all...

drumroll..............
after 15 mins on hold (silent hold, i thought i had been cut off and nearly ended the call)

my phone is in the post tomorrow and my new price plan starts after my next bill!!!!!!!
percervere with them i got what i wanted in the end!!!!

Well done, I would prefer to stay with them and get a new pone and diff tariff, my contract due up in Dec but my phone will not live that long, its held together with insulation tape after its most recent adventure (tied to action mans back and parachuted 30 foot over the top of the stairs!)
So I really need a new phone, would like a Mix and Match tariff to. Gonna call tomorrow and see what I can do. Quite fancy the N95 but if you struggled to get the 6500 off them I have no hope! :)

They tried this with me but what they didn't say, until I asked, is that you are bound for another 18 months from the date your contract would have originally ended. It's quite missleading when they say it will take effect from your next bill.

This means that if your contract was due to expire in December 2008, you'll be bound to them until June 2010.
#28
(ive posted this on the other thread aswell)

Be careful as according to CS if you upgrade now and your contract doesnt expire until december, the discount on your new price plan wont start until december - ie i changed from £15 per month to a £25 with a £5pm discount . so im now paying £25 per month until my contract officially ends (another 3 months !)

I got my letter yesterday about the itemised billing & DD. Does the rounding up to a minute not affect Mix & Match customers?

I was going to try & cancel as I'm 3 months in to an 18 month contract but I've been looking at other tariffs & I haven't found one as good as the M&M 1100 for £20 a month. I use around 700 minutes a month.

So if anyone comes across a better tariff, let me know!

Oops...duplicate post!

I have decided just to cancel and get out now, will buy a sim only deal and get my phone unlocked while I look into what phone and tariff I want, hopefully nearer Christams/Jan there will be better deals out there.

Zoe_B have you looked into sim only deals Vodaphone have with with £90 quidco, Orange have the £10 one with £20 and 02 have the simplicity deal at £20, for your level of use 02 looks like it may be worth a look.
These deals are all on a 30 day notice so it gives you time to find a better deal or even wait a few months and go back to three and get another new phone!

Thanks. A sim only deal didn't even cross my mind! The O2 simplicity would be perfect for me. Sent some rep your way

After reading the thread on MSE ( I assume that you're kidcat on there too :-D), I think I'm just going to send a letter by recorded delivery because I can't be bothered to argue with them over the phone lol. I'm not holding my breath though!

Have you had any luck yet?
banned#33
Hmmm. Wonder if this affects me!

I just bought one of their half price USB mobile broadband contracts. I wasn't expecting an itemised bill - but they are sending me a paper bill!

I'm happy with the contract, but havent received anything to say they are now going to charge a quid for the priviledge!
#34
Anyone else have any luck?

Each time I call, their systems are down. :x
#35
I sent them a letter a couple of days ago, stating their T&Cs, and how I felt I could cancel because of what they said, and the changes they made. This was after 3 calls to Customer Service, who didn't listen, and all repeated to me - like robots - that I had to pay a cancellation fee. Really poor customer service.
#36
They now said it doesn't affect my tariff DT 1000!

God I want to shoot these people
#37
Received the letter today, rang customer services and point out 10.1 d (or whatever it is) in the terms and conditions stated I could cancel my contract and was basically told I'd have to pay a cancellation fee.

I asked to speak to the guys manager and he told me parrott fashion the exact same thing.

He pointed out that in the terms and conditions it states that Three can change the terms and conditions as long as they give 30 days notice to the customers, to which I pointed out what 10.1 d said.

Basically the change from seconds to 1 minute does affect me greatly. I only have 75 free minutes a month which means if I ring someone and it goes through to their answerphone just for 1 second and I hang up I lose 1 minute of my allowance. How many times does this happen a month? If its over 75 then all my minutes have gone!
#38
I have contacted them and been advised that I cannot acncel without paying they have even told me that I have received the letter in error, have now emailed the executive office and had a reply saying they will be in touch in 5 days. WIll just have to wait and see.
#39
Just got out of my contract with 3. they only offered me 40mins and 400txts extra to stay. But i wanted a new phone. After puttin me on hold they said they couldnt do it so she gave me my pac code and my contract ends 18th sept. Do you rec they will ring back after a few days with another offer or is that it now?
#40
After emailing the exec office, I got a call back from a lovely Scottish lady who looked at my case and agreed to cancel it immediately. I even got my pac over the phone.

Result. Now I'm off to a real network.
