Cheapest Orange tariff that I can drop down to?

Hi all,

I don't post here very often so I hope this is in the right spot and I won't feel the wrath of the ban hammer.

I am currently in a contract with Orange. However, I kind of want out so that I can get myself an iPhone. But I know there's no chance that Orange are going to let me out of the contract early. I've heard that what I can do is get the contract down to about 10 pounds and then just let the contract ride out and not use the phone.
Does anyone know if there's any truth in this or if there's any other option that will limit my spend so I can go ahead and treat myself to an iPhone?

Many many thanks in advance for any responses.

u can only downgrade the price plan after u been with them half the contract time. Also one downgrade one price plan per month, u cannot downgrade straight to the lowest price plan.

I renewed my contract after an 18 month contract for another 18 months, so I'm not sure if that counts as being 9 months in or not. And only being able to go down one tarriff a month is a bit nasty.
They really do have by the balls when you sign on to these contracts. :0(

sharonwai is correct. You can only drop after reaching the half way point in your contract and then by only 1 tariff a month. . .(I work for Orange).

When you renewed the contract it would have started a new 18 month session, sorry. . .
