Well its just that you can download the videos from youtube...im not talking about torrents!

Youtube is just as illegal as downloading elsewhere!
(not that I care, i'm just pointing out the OP say's they are not a thief, so YouTube is not an option for them.)

well technically when you watch something on youtube, it gets stored on your HDD. Therefore looking from my point of view this is tresspassing. Don't see why you should not be able to locate this in your temp internet files and view it over and over!!

Yes technically illegal but very unlikely to get caught as millions do it! Not that this makes it any more acceptable just saying that you can get videos for free if someone is going to complain about paying £1.89 for them.

well how do you say its illegal!! Unless you viewed a unofficial copy of the video on youtube. If you go to the official website and view a video, it gets streamed and stored on your PC!! I don't see how is it illegal to view that again and again. Yes legality comes into the picture if you profit from this or maybe if you transfer it to your phone (not sure on this bit)..

Similarly, if someone came and dropped a CD through your mailbox, does he/she have the right to call you a thief!!??

Yes but i mean downloading the file to your hard drive with a program like this so that you can then put it onto an ipod, phone or any compatible device. It doesnt really get stored on your pc otherwise...unless like you said as a temporary file but there is not alot you can do with this apart from watch it again on your pc whereas I think the op would want to do more with it than this and put it onto another device.

Dont get me wrong...i agree with you that it shouldnt be illegal as it is the same as just someone owning something and letting people borrow it. The reason piratebay got in trouble was for 'making it easier and more accessible to share content'.

I don't see why downloading music videos for free is thieving. After all, they're called promotional videos for a reason. And that's to sell the music.
I don't have a portable media player, just an mp3 player. But if I did then I'd go to one of the many sites that begin with www.rapid...... and acquire them that way.
I would end up buying the physical product anyway either before or after having obtained the video.
