Cheapest way from London to Perthshire

Hi. We are contemplating going to Perthshire. Does anyone know the cheapest way to get there - probably by train. Anyone have any idea how to get a decent fare? What is the cheapest type of ticket? Also do children (under 5s) pay on trains? Thanks

Alot will depend on when you are going etc, if you are taking children buy a family railcard this will save you alot of money.

I never nornally get the train so not sure how this works. Am I able to choose between train companies to get there then?

Saw in Which the other day it's actually often cheaper to buy a split ticket e.g. London to Leeds and Leeds to Edinburgh (as an example). Provided the train stops at the middle station it's perfectly legit and can save quite a lot.

Book well in advance for the best deal.
