I am moving from virgin media to sky. But i do not have a bt line. Sky offer a bt line i think for £39, but is there any cheaper way to get one?

Thanks!

When I got Sky at my new place, I phoned and asked about this charge (was £100 quid at the time I think). The lady said as I was a new customer they would do it for free. Don't know if this was a limited offer or not but if you are taking a TV package and/or broadband I imagine they would do you a deal. It's acually BT who come round to install it. Sky are TERRIBLE to contact on the phone though....

Don't think there's any such thing as a cheap BT landline! I've moved house several times over the years and had to pay over £100 EACH time to get my phone connected even though I've always been a customer. My OH worked for BT as well but still no perks for that. Rip off.

Has the house previously had a BT line if so it will just be a case of reactivating it which will be free (They do tie you in for 12 months though)

I just got BT line. £29.99 activation fee if you sign up for 18month contract at the moment. Better than £125! :-)

I had my installed last year. I rang sky, told them what I wanted , such as phone line, broadband and the TV... I said I would go for BT but I didn't want to pay for the fee to have the line connected, around £120. Sky waived the fee and got an engineer from OpenReach to come and install the line for free.. Simple as that... and cheaper! I am with sky since then. I have to say £29.00 is not bad.

That is not correct as the previous line may have been ceased rather than stopped, and just because there is a socket doesnt mean there is wiring back to the cabinet / exchange from it!

The chances are it will be though when you leave BT they are not normally in the habit of disconnecting all the wiring and has long as it is the correct socket and a visual inspection shows the wiring to the pole there shouldn't be a problem. Yes this is from experiance as i have bounced between BT and Virgin for years now.

If you want a sky line, go to sky. sky dont do bt lines, sky do sky lines.

if there is a stopped line thats a compatible bt will take it over for free, you will however have a 12 month contract with bt and need to pay line rental which is minimum £11.54 per month

If there is not a bt line there, or a compatible line then you will have to pay £124.99 to have the line connected and have a 12 month contract aswell, again paying a monthly linr rental.

If your having your services with sky this is the only options you have.
If there are any offers on with bt for connection you do have to make at least 10 calls from your line per month to aviod addtional charges, so if your having your calls through someone else it would be pointless doing this offer.
