Cheapest way to send money abroad

I have £400 to send to my brother in america, Money is in my bank account and so far I have looked at sending it via my bank who want to charge me £19 and only give me 1.5 dollar to the pound.

Paypal charge £15 and offer 1.6 dollar to the pound (better deal) but will he have to pay another charge to withdraw it to his bank account once it gets there.

So paypal looks the better deal so far but wondering if there is any cheaper alternatives and quicker as Paypal once he has it takes a few days to move it into his account.

paypal will still charge cross-border transaction fee (3%?) IMO

i think anything over 100 dollars is free for him to withdraw. so the only fees would be on your side.

The best deal is moneybroker (account to account) but it wont let you send it to America for some reason???

Does it pay the money into an overseas account or is it like sending over a cheque??

Is this a one-of or will you make regular payments?

I use a Pre-paid credit card to send money abroad.
Cost. Card about £10
Load fee @ Post office £0.75
ATM charge 2.75% of withdrawal.
Online load of card £1.50
However. If you keep the long number on the card you can get the PO to load it by typing it in and loading it the same as a fuel payment card.
I use TalkSport card but now that has a £1 a month fee so I think the Virgin card is better.
Good luck.
ops!
Also, if you have a Lloyds Silver account you can get a "Travell money" card.
Think it's free then.
Good luck.

Open up a spare bank account, put the money in, send your bro the debit card and he can withdraw in America.

Shouldn't be much of a charge ;)

Chers everybody, I sent him the options you all mentioned but since it is still 6 am over there I need to see how he wants to do it.

I simply go to my local post office and send it via money gram.I always pay same money, only around £3 no matter how much sending.I am not sure whether it's just my post office that charges that little, but I don't complain. They will give you options of which banks are connected to them and your friend could pick it up in USA or wherever in that bank providing they have pin code which you will be given when sending money to him/her via Money Gram.
Hope that helps

just found out that the reason I spend only £5.99 which is a new fee that must have been raised recently is because I send it to Brazil and they have set tarif of £5.99,no matter how much.
Anyways, click and copy this link http://www.mtiuk.co.uk/Fee_Table.htm and you will see fees they charge depending where you send money to..:D
