I came accross this useful info in another forum:

Company Phone number

British Telecom - Keep pressing *
Tesco - Dont press anything
Curry's- press # repeatedly
MBNA credit card- call the abroad phone number, puts you straight through an operator

And of course you can find alternative numbers (geographical ones) which are 01xxxx / 02xxxx numbers and if you have inclusive minutes on your mobile / landline you can use them for free instead of calling 0845/0870.

Some of the numbers you find though might actually go to different departments and things and they will either tell you to ring the proper number or they will put you through. The numbers are the right ones 80% of the time though and it'll save money when you are arguing with... I mean talking to... those big corporate companies like Powergen and OSPS. :D

Best thing I've found is to just not press anything and you'll soon speak to someone.
