For which reason would you want to check it in the presence of Royal Mail?

Course it is. Otherwise you don't know what your signing for!

The item ought to arrive with you in a suitable condition so you would.

I don't think you're actually allowed to open parcels from RM but some posties will let you but others will say you have to sign before they even give you the parcel.

Yes, I know that. My point is there are methods for ensuring that any issues can be dealt with even if you sign for a parcel.

Sign for it, and write unchecked. Parcels accepted but contents unknown, and then you shouldnt have a problem

the reverse is true.

Surely you are signing just to confirm you received it. If the item is then damaged when you open it you contact the sender. I asume if its broken you then expect the postman to fix it for you whilst you stand over him. You can't give it back to him even if it is broken.

true for RM but DHL etc wont allow claims for damaged goods unless you put 'unchecked'
#14
On all the paperwork i have seen, it states that claims will not be accepted if the goods have been signed for, they must be either checked, or signed as UNCHECKED.

This, as i say, is the official line, i'm not sure if these are strict rules in practice or not.

Sign unchecked. Some of these guys have 100+ drops to do, if they wait while everyone checks what's been delivered no one will get anything in under a week. . .

Inb4 its a bomb X)
#18
how do you sign as unchecked?
just write unchecked under your name?
#19
I am a courier and people try to right unchecked on the screen and it ends up a mess so just ask the driver to put unchecked where he prints your name so it can be read very easily.
We dont allow you to have the box before you sign for it as a rule.
