I stumbled upon this thread by clicking on the "All" tab by accident!
I'm glad I did because... wow... just... wow...
Are you even in the UK to see such a monster of a spider!?
Hope that... beast has left your home and you have a pleasant night sleep. :p

Can anyone identify it? It had like black and yellow distinct (maybe red?) markings on it's back? Defo the biggest spider I've ever come across! I live in the UK (Gloucestershire) and I doubt he'll leave the house, he's made an appearance every evening this week!

I let him be but this was the first time he stayed still long enough to let me take a pic of him.

did you kill it!?

OR... Leave a pint glass ontop of it, and see how long it lives for......

My god thats a huge spider, well done you for allowing it to exist in your house - personally if that beast made nightly appearances i'd be waiting with something that wasn't a camera!

Like maybe one of these...

I think I'd need something bigger than a pint glass to put on top of it :w00t:

I couldn't kill it, it had dangly little fangs and was so big it would have been like killing a small animal! Spiders are good, it must have been eating all the woodlice or something in our house to be that big.

Eghhhh has anyone googled wolf spiders? Scary stuff!!!! No I don't think they are native to the UK and I don't think I could see the eyes on it.

I don't like spiders as much as the next person, especially their spider webs, they really bug me (ba doom pshhhh ) but I don't like killing insects as they are useful creatures. It's hard enough for me to kill snails (garden) and ticks (dog) but at least I know they are useless.

I've just had a look at the floor boards where it was and that dark knot you see is pretty much exactly the same size of £1 coin.

Would you guys believe me if I told you I had to release a garden snake (possibly adder, I never got it identified) last week from the garden?! I have pics of that too but they're not to hand on my phone (didn't come out very well).

That's about the same size as the one I just shot and killed. Massive, so it was. Like the size of my hand. I was going to just catch it with a glass and a sheet of paper, but it made a bolt for my clothes pile, so I had to grab for my BB gun (I keep it by the bed and loaded just for this sort of event) and pop a cap in the mofo's ass. I hit it with my first shot, which I was quite pleased with myself for, especially since I was aiming from a good 10ft away. I shot it again once it was down, just to make sure it was definitely dead. I then lifted its twitching corpse between two strips of card and fed it to my venus fly trap. A good night's work, I'd say.

Funnily enough my housemate (who happens to be Russian) was just going to bed, saw it before me and instinctively grabbed his slipper off his foot to whack it but I held my arm out and stopped him. I told him I'd seen this spider several times before and that I wanted to take a pic of it as no one would believe me how bit it was otherwise. While he was explaining to me that the only spiders he'd seen in Russia were tiny, the guy ran off somewhere.

lol at your flat mate!

I posted within the last week about the biggest spider we'd seen in our house - I can understand how you feel - lol.

It practically filled the glass (upturned of course) and was trying to jump at the sides to get out. I would compare it's body alone with the size of my thumb from knuckle to finger tip!

Can you get your hand along side and do a measurement - lol!

Jeso.. I would have screamed the placed down if I saw that thing! My fiance would have been sent in to kill it.... giving me the heebee jeebee's

There was a similar size spider in my place last night - though the legs were skinnier, and the body smaller. Still hated it. Annoyingly it was in a place I couldn't kill it :( Just had to hope it left me alone :(

Seems early to be spider season?
