check your co2 emissions & car tax charges

Not sure if anyone will be interested in this or not but if you have a tax re-newel letter then your emissions are at the bottom left of that, if not use this link

http://www.smmtco2.co.uk

to check your emissions then see what you'll be paying on this chart

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_depth/629/629/7293011.stm

Oh & don't panic about the 1st year tax column from what I can see this is only if you buy a brand new car & not the charge you pay the 1st year the new rules come in which is why I first thought I'd be paying £425 for the 1st year!

Still mine has gone upto £270 a year :(

as usual the government taking th p1ss under the pretence of saving the environment.
This should only apply to new cars so that people have a choice when they buy ,not on what they already own.
I think motorists are getting increasingly fed up with the way they are being treated and the politicians need to listen to public opinion or suffer the consequences.

So where does my 92 Escort fit into this grand scheme? Guessing I remain at a base tax rate?

Use the 1st link and it'll tell you - I have no idea without knowing the other details the form asks for.

It also tells you what your cars current CO2 emissions band on your Road Tax is officially here :

http://www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/ (select 'Vehicle Enquiry' on left hand menu)

then just put in your make and Reg no.

It is true that the Earth is naturally heating up but it is heating up far more than at least the last 5 times.

But how do you know? Were you there to take temperature readings, was anybody*, or is it just guesswork by so called boffins?

By the way i'm not trying to be argumentative, I don't actually care enough for that

Ice cores drilled in antartica give a very accurate reading of earth's temperatures going back millions of years.

Anyway, I still don't believe there is anything we can do about it unless China /USA cut their output which they certainly will not do. Cars only account for 1% of CO2 anyway!

Its just a new world governments' way of taxing us all more. The fact the government has admitted that car tax revenue will increase by £1,000,000,000 each year once these new measures come in prove its not a green tax at all. Just a way to get more money out of taxpayers to spend it on useless government ministers stupid pet projects.
#17
Why not do something about it and vote the idiots out it is time for a change!!!!!

That paints a picture

Quite often I sit here and have a giggle at the arrogance of us humans, think we know things but really our knowledge is like a grain of sand on an infinite beach. We boast of how we have built things and improved on them, but to what end? It means nothing in the grand scale of things....... So... Global warming... Bring it!!:w00t:

And all the other parties are gonna do away with fuel duties and vehicle excise duty and we'll all be given free cars and much beer as we can drink :whistling:

The showroom tax is an increase although the huge numbers such as the 950 pounds for a Land Rover V8 are on already very expensive cars. If it was the showroom number every year I could see why people would be up in arms but it's not.

My 150 bhp turbo diesel comes under the same band as a 1.2 petrol Fiesta which is not bad ;)

No, but they won't keep introducing endless stealth taxes to pay for all their stupid schemes / pet projects that have cost this country billions upon billions over the last 10 years (e.g. Gordon Clown selling off half the UKs gold reserves at an all time low of $400 an ounce. Now $950 an ounce).

Our grandchildren will still be trying to pay off the interest on the increased national debt (up to a record high of £504 Billion at the end of 2007 and still has to have £100 Billion added to it as they bailed out Northern rock!).

The interest alone now costs more than the armed forces.

Prudence, my backside! And the government has the cheek to moan about society's increasing levels of debt :x

So i'm still guessing pre 2001 cars will be taxed at a flat rate.

So the tax on the 3.0l beast I posted earlier would be....

Vehicle Excise Duty Rate for vehicle
6 Months Rate £101.75
12 Months Rate £185.00

Bet that makes the new mondeo owners a bit sick.....
