Ok im just wondering how many people actually check the ebay id of a seller on here and how many take it for granted that the one they give is theirs?

I have noticed a post the other day and on post 114 i asked had anyone actually checked the ebay id the person had given and by the response i got no one had even tho alot of transactions had been carried out and alot of stuff paid for

i really dont think mnay of them actually check anything, they just hand over their money and expect their goods
#2
i do when they havnt used the site before

Yeh,I check,I requested a Mario Kart DS other day,and was offered, they told me their eBay I.D so we just exchahnged messages direct, got them to message me on my own eBay.
I suppose anyone could make up an eBay I.D they seen on site and say it's them anyway.

well mines Ace_Hayward dontcha think thats a lil too coincidental?

I still do feel a bit nervous though about trading on here, wether as a seller or as buyer, maybe thats cos this is not purely a selling site.

i was reading yeserday someone that had sold a fair few things and read through every thread and not once had their been any mention of an ebay name, no mention of checks etc, etc, just deal and pm your bank details:w00t:

I do - and would - unless it was someone on here that I know I could trust.... any "unknown" to me would indeed make me a lot more cautious

i get that impression, i know myself i dont check id's of established members but do of newer members ie under 15 feedback

no that would still make me check cos you could pick an ebay name with good feedback and use it as your id for here trying to lul people into a false sense of security

say i have 1000 +feedback on fleabay i come on here ready to scam people i show you my feedback answer some q's then rip you all off what can you do with my ebay id?

On the basis - this is the first time I have spoken to you then I would be cautious and asked for appropiate checks etc
BUT my judgement goes because I have got to know about a dozen of people on here off site. So nothing personal :friends:

its just one more avenue really, think the ebay is just to show good feedback, the essential one to have is a landline number, the more info you have the easier it is to track someone down, i personally would only dela with someone i had checked out through ebay and paid via paypal, but would never art with alot of dosh for here or ebay anyway

i know im just saying what can we actually do even if they have good feddback and still scam?
#17
well i think if they didnt even get the ebay feedback check how many do you think checked a landline and address as thats more 'work'

its just rude the guy claims his neg feedback was a mix up! it was not! lol
#22
can you not just send eachother messages over ebay?! i.e. they say their ebay ID and then also send you a message to your ebay account saying "yeah, it's me, see".
#23
I have done checks via Ebay id's before but if a regular poster etc then i tend to trust more, as long as its a long time reg poster not a couple of hundred regular poster.
