Chicken Fricassee - school dinners!

Possibly my best memory of school?
Puff pastry and loads of the 'grey sauce' that came with it.

So I woke up this morning and decided to make a school memory come back to life. And boy did I do it justice! Followed a Keith Floyd recipe and it worked a treat. I also did roasted new potatoes and asparagus (which I think was missing from the school menu).

Anyone else got some really good memories of school food?

I remember school dinners being ok, cornflake tart and custard mmmm!
However, went to my little one's school for parents lunch and found myself gagging, at the lack of salt ha ha!

I worked on school dinner's a couple of year's ago.

I felt sorry for the children because the food was nasty.

The cutlery was dirty and flies landed on the cakes.

Never again!

Could never stomach semolina and the school blamange. Used to like some of the sweet puddings though but others reminding me of what they were has made me realise I would probably hate them today. Eg cornflake tart. That would be much too sweet for me now.

My favourite time at school was when the dinner ladies were on strike.

We got a lovely packed lunch to take home.

My school dinners were gross, I honestly can't think of anything nice about them apart from the jam roly poly and ice cream. I used to go home starving and wolved down my tea (that's dinner to you poshies).

I am sure the staff saved the best for themselves.

They were all over-weight.
