Children's TV presenter Tony Hart has died at the age of 83, the BBC said.

TV presenter Tony Hart dies

Hart appeared on art programmes for nearly 50 years before retiring in 2001 because of health problems.

He was most famous for fronting children's art shows including Take Hart and Hart Beat.

Mr Hart's agent Roc Renals said he died in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He said: "I was for many years his best friend, agent, manager and publicist.

"He suffered two strokes many years ago and his health declined since then."

I used to love Tony when I was a kid. He was great. I'm kinda pleased to see how happy he was with all the public praise he got on his website before his death, and it does look to me like he maybe died a happy and satisfied man. Still, gutted to see he's gone. He was a great man :(

A farewell from Media Molecule (who recently released the Tony Hart-inspired "LittleBIGPlanet" [PS3 game]):

A Harted Creator

You can see from the photo of the development team with Mr Hart that he wasn't well at the time, and had recently been unable to draw (or even sign autographs) due to the after effects of suffering two strokes.

I prefer to remember him from the images on the BBC News site & the reminder every time I start "LittleBIGPlanet" & hear the theme tune to "The Gallery" (or "Left Bank Two" by the Noveltones, if you prefer).

"TV presenter Tony Hart dies at 83"
"A bit of vibraphone"
"In Pictures: Tony Hart"

Also for your information:

"Tony Hart reveals his drawing secrets"

A very sad loss to the world.
One of life's great gentlemen & an inspiration to at least one, if not more, generations.

Thoughts with, and condolences to, his family & friends.

BFN,

fp.
