Childrens ear piercing, where do you stand on this?

Was just wondering if anyones kids had there ears pierced and if they did what age was it done at?

Reason I ask is because I know someone who has there Daughters done, shes 18 days old and it was done at 4 days,( would just like to add that I think this is totally wrong).

My kids are 5, 3 and 1, with the oldest 2 being girls, they haven't asked for it to be done but to be honest I dont think I want them getting it done just now anyways.

What do uz all think?

Its awful seeing babies that have had it done

Nasty nasty future chavs
#2
imo they are a bit young still 8 is the very earliest i think:)
#3
I think it's a personal thing with no right or wrong. I haven't got pierced ears but I've nothing against anyone else having them or parents deciding to have their infants done.
#4
Only tramps have them done that early!!!
#5
I dont have daughters but if i did i would wait until they were at least 11 and old enough to decide if they really wanted it done.

I hate seeing babies with ears pierced

Anno but 4 days old?

Looks absolutely awful on babies and i would say not very practical for younger kids either! Some of my daughters friends have had it done (ages 6/7) and teachers have to cover them over for P.E etc

I think they should wait until they are old enough to decide themselves

I don't like it on little'ies - bet I'm gonna be attacked by a few now lol. My mum always said 'when ur 16' but she actually did it as a surprise for my 9th b.day and it was the best pressent ever:-D (at the time obviously, lol)

See this is what I think too, for me it would be just a pain in the ass on Gym days etc.

i thinks its up to you as parent ,i done mine myself at 14 with an ice cube and a needle ,i dont really agree with it being done young as you are forcing your stamp on them, all children are different and may never want their ears pierced like my wife so i think when the child is old enough and asks if they can have their ears peirced would be my answer
#11
I had mine done when i was about 7/8 and i am very grateful now because its a good thing to have done imo. Closes up after long period of disuse, and is only a small hole while it is waiting to heal.
I don't think it's right to have a babies ears pierced as they have no say in it, and quite often look very bad.
But, each to their own, hey.

Well I personally wouldn't!!!
I especially wouldn't make that decision for a child of mine , male or female
...... but I don't think it matters very much. If you had asked me twenty years ago, I reckon I would have been pretty anti, but what with all the face-mongery that you see now-a-days and the really pretty looks that have an indian influence I don't mind.

Anno the little studs she has in just look so huge on her tiny ears.

Mine were done when I was 5 I think, my Gran took me without my Mum knowing and got it done.

They have closed over now and its something I kinda regret cos well now I cant wear earrings and am a bit of a wuss to go get it done again(even with the 3 kids lol).

my daughters not having hers done till she goes to senior school so she can put them in and out and clean them herself. shes 10 now

Ears pierced at 4 days, no doubt by the time shes 13 she'll have everything pierced lol.
#17
I have seen a young child with an torn earlobe due to another child tugging at the earring. I believe in letting kids grow up instead of trying to make them look like little adults.

I think it's totally tacky having baby's ears pierced and shouldn't be allowed
#19
That's discusting, i can't believe the shop actually did it :(

Perhaps it's best to wait like my departed mum til you're 60 to have your first piercing. It was her ears BTW.:-D

I had my daughters done at 4 years old and that neither makes her a future chav or a tramp! My mum had mine done at 3 and your theories are disproved as I am not a chav or a tramp either. Why can't people voice their opinion without resorting to negatively categorising people.

I once saw a little girl in the hairdressers having it done, no more than 4, she was struggling, screaming crying, her Mum was literally pinning her down, they did it and her Mum wasn't happy as one was a little wonky, so they said the only thing to do was to remove it and do another hole. The poor little girl was hysterical and her Mum made her go through it again!! My 2 young sons were with me and in a trance just staring at the poor girl as they had never seen anything like it, they thought they were killing her, I was nearly in tears myself it made me feel so sick I had to leave.

I haven't a girl, but if I did I would wait till she was a teen, my mother had mine done at 3 though, I'm nearly 33 but I still remember it being done!

Get this, the hospital did it, said its better to get it done at that age because theres less risk of infection or something.

Exactly. It's personal choice.

Piercings, be they ear, clitoris, nipple, whatever, are down to the parents and you shouldn't criticise them for that.

my girls wanted theirs done when they were 7/8 ish - we stood and watched a little 3 yr old getting hers daone - screamed house down - my girls changed there minds - quick!!

eldest got friend to do hers @14 - actually she has just been saying she is getting this and that done when shes 16 - daddy is saying - not !!
#32
Our girls had their ears pierced not before they were old enough to ask for it to be done. My eldest daughter was about 13. My younger daughter said, "Pierce your skin? That's insane". She still hasn't had hers done.

Can't understand why anyone would have a four day old baby pierced.

But then it's common practice in the US to circumcise baby boys too and I put my foot down about that also!
#33
I waited until my daughter asked to have hers done, as far as I can remember she was about 7 or 8.

IMO 4 days is just wrong, nothing to do with being chavvy as others have said, I just think it's wrong.
#34
my sister was told that she had to wait till her baby had had all her needles i.e tetanus and what not
#35
I was made to wait until i was 14. MY kid sis had hers done at start of school holidays when she was 10 so if any problems , they could be dealt with without fear of being bumped by other kids ( netball courts are rough )lol

4 days old!?! omg thats so stupid!
#39
Its absolutely disgusting. the parents are mutilating the child for there own fashion ideals. Vile.
#40
4 days bless her she hasnt even had her first needle to protect her against virus and infections etc and her mum goes and stabs her ears. i remember when i had my 2nd ear piercing and it went all horrible and mankie and having the solution on my ears stang - it is up to the mum but surely the person that did this cold of at their discretion said err no and yes i understand she could of gone somewhere else but maybe a law should be introduced for an age children can have them done, my sis worked at claires when she was 16 just a saturday job and within day she was a fully trained ear piercer wrong isnt it

just read previous post it was at the hospital well thats even worse in my opinion hospitals sposed to make you better not put holes in you at such a young age
