Chin up Pompey.... Pompey Chin up..... RIP?????

.

So the Inland Revenue's winding up order for Portsmouth Football Club has gone to court and unless there is a stay of execution or a last minute owner number 6 (this season!!!), it looks like its curtains for the FA Cup winners of just 2 years ago!

There are a few clubs around, i'd seriously be laughing out loud if that was to happen to them, but I've got a soft spot for pompey, purely 'cos I think their support (away from Fratton Park) is absolutely first class. (Apart from the idiot with the Tats, bell and stupid hat!)

I expect Saints fains will be rubbing their hands with glee... not to mention the bye into Round 6 of the FA cup!

Views?

Hate most welcome in this thread................ but sympathy and anecdotes are preferable.

Play up Pompey..... Pompey Play Up.........

So if it does happen Pompey fans... what will you do? I cant see you becoming saints fans.... so who would you follow IF this is the last day of Portsmouth FC?

Boooo to the tax man...... And fingers crossed for Pompey.

Ye gods. I hope you're not suggesting its an omen for things to come!!!!

Must agree with you guv Pompey got some real supporters not like the prawn sandwich fans the prem has now, these fakes don't know f-all about football or the culture.
#7
Blame it on Harry and his ridiculous spending spree....(although I guess if the money wasn't stopped by anyone most managers would do the same). I dont think HMRC would really be as bad as to send them into liquidation...fingers crossed for them but administration seems pretty much certain...I guess better to start again then to end?
#8
Aren't Cardiff and Southend in court today too? Not looking a good day for football.

At least those two ***** that bang the drums for 90mins wont have anything to do on a saturday. If a shame for the Portsmouth fans but I would personally be blaming Peter Kenyon who seemed to allow Harry Redknapp free reign to **** the entire clubs finanaces up the wall on winning the FA with absolutely no sustainability.

LOL regardless of what team he manages now..lets be honest Harry's history of finances...including the upcomming court date arent exactly gleeming...but as I said any manager who had that kind of financial freedom would do the same..its a shame for pompey.

So it's Chelsea's fault if Pompey go under

whatsThePoint
They go under, all debts written off, relaunched next week with new owner and no debts, sounds like a winning plan to me

Apart from the fact they'll be in League 2 at best (I would imagine)
#13
Doh, I of course me Peter Storrie, although Kenyon is also a ****.

11.30 is crunch time, I really really cant see them being wound up, it just doesnt seem possible they can just vanish

Lol a 44 year old portsmouth fan outside the ground being interviewed and crying, steady on there chap.

yet again .. its the fans that suffer

.. mismanagement of the club by the directors and the board ... no doubt syphoning off cash rather than investing for the future.. vultures all of them

I'm sure there's thousands and thousands of people who would be crying if their club was on the verge of disappearing.

Bigger things than Portsmouth football club have vanished. MG Rover went bump...
Just remember they are a business and if they owe money they should be treated the same as any other company. I know as football fans, certain people don't want them to go, others don't care either way. Maybe this is the lesson football needs if they do go under, if they don't will anyone learn from this.
[mod]#22
It'll be sad but i think it will be good for Football in the long run to bring an end to the crazy money days. Also i don't think there should be any special treatment just because they are a football club........this happens to lots of other types of business all the time and like them Pompey has no assets left worth talking about.

Who next? Cardiff?

They're in court today, along with Southend - both face winding up orders

As a Pompey fan im reading this thread with interest.. I agree with the fella that Storrie gave Twitchy free reign and helped to ruin my great club for which i have been a season ticket holder for many years..
I have been going to the Park since i was 9.. Im now 41.. I have many great memories.. Stockport at home.. Bradford away.. Huddersfield away.. (If you're a Pompey fan you will know the games im talking about) I have seen in my view the greatest footballer to walk this planet Prosinecki (the Croatian KIng).. the Championship win under Merson the Master and Ultimately the Fa Cup. The taxman doesnt care... all he wants is the money. Any fan wanting the promised land of the premiership.. beware.. and take a look at Man U and Liverpool.. hopefully those big clubs will survive.. rely on Results at your peril.
Time for a wage cap i think... Football cannot keep going on like this.. RIP

No.. My name isn't
John Portsmouth Football Club Westwood
and yes that IS his real name.. He is a character.. I know many people dont like him but tell me a football fan in England that doesnt know which team he supports. Im sure he bleeds blue blood.

Does anyboy know for sure what will happen if they fold?

Do they just go stright through the pyramid?
Would it be 2 down/3 up into the Premier League at the end of the season OR does it ripple though the lower leagues?
What about the points they've earned this year, are those games voided?

Not sure, but I would imagine they would be removed from the football league
2 down / 3 up at the end of the season.
All results removed, along with points / goals from the Pompey games.

And Southampton will get a bye in the FA Cup.

If the do get wound up (all players/stadium sold etc), what will happen regarding the league ?

Will all future fixtures incur a 1-0 win to the other team - what about games previously played etc - will all past results stand ?

Would that also mean 1 less team is relegated this season, or that 1 extra team will come up ?

By the standards of any club, he's unusual. He has travelled to every game, home and away, since 1980. In 1989, he changed his name by deed poll to John Anthony Portsmouth Football Club Westwood.
He also has 60 Portsmouth tattoos on his body, the club crest shaved on to his head and "PFC" engraved on his teeth.
John might look like a man possessed when he is watching football but, in reality, he is yet another Portsmouth curiosity. It is rather bewildering to find him going about his day job - he is an antiquarian book dealer in the pretty market town of Petersfield.
"People look at me and think I must be some madman off a building site, but books are my life," he whispers as we meet in the family bookshop.
His late father was a well-known book dealer, his brother is the Queen's paper conservator at Windsor Castle and John has written a book himself.
Needless to say, it is about Portsmouth Football Club.

Could have an amazing impact on Champions League qualification as Man City, Tottenham and Aston Villa all won at Pompy but Liverpool lost there!
