Chip in windscreen

It's smaller than a 5 pence piece but it has got like two cracks either side of the small chip.

Autoglass haven't seen it yet but want £83 to fill it in but then give a life time guarantee it won't crack if it does they'll replace my windscreen with a VW OEM one (= bonus points). Some Polish cow boys at Homebase have offered to do it for £24 but no VAT or guarantee.

Should I pay the £83 for Autoglass, I plan on hanging on to the car till it dies so the life time guarantee appeals to me.

Well as sods law has it I went 3rd party fire and theft this year :-( 110k on the clock with original wind screen and this happens.

Yes I'm with the RAC, do they do it free then?

Doesn't it all depend if the crack / chip is in the line of vision? I had one repaied, but it still failed the next MOT.

Yeah Autoglass did ask where it was, it's in the centre of the windscreen I've got a mate who does MoTs will ask him.

Learn from this and never get 3rd party again.
If an uninsured driver hits you you will get nothing.
Nothing for your car and no compensation if you are disabled by it.
It's just not worth the saving.
Good luck.

lol what? there is my life insurance if I get disabled by it my car is worth less than £700 I can afford to replace it. Also there is a criminal compensation scheme I forget what it's called but my mate got what his car was worth from it. It comes out of the tax payers pot though.
