they can get cut off if virgin find out you have one, but my mate has had one for 2 years and no problems!
but even if they cut off its just something inside so you can get it repaired!

They keep saying that this will happen, but it never happens

Virign will lose a lot of customers if this happens, not sure it will be in their best interest

They cant switch your box off in the normal way. They will switch you off from the cabinet if they found out and as t0mm said, at some point, they will be changing the encryption used from Nagra2 to Nagra3.... When that happens your free virgin will be no more.

    Thank heavens for satellite. :w00t:

    how do you do that

depending on the type of box you have, they have a card with a chip in it.
some cards stop working when virgin change th code but there are cards that do it them selves , so you might get one of those and you'll be fine.
virgin cant find out you are using it, unless you tell them. (so i've been told).

depends really, the majority of people who use these boxes still pay 30-40 a month towards virgin (phone/ broadband/ V+)

    haha customers....

the nagra3 cards are going on trail in a month or so, as they are such a large company I would say 6months for them to roll it out nation wide, it will be on an area per area basis the same way as they rolled out VOD and cut off the ppv movies.

the boxs are detectable no matter which one, some are just harder (ie they need to poke arround in the box in your streer not have you flagged in headoffice), if its an officail box its also stolen goods so even having it in your house will get you more than a light slap, plug it in and its theft of service to add to your offences, thoes box's can talk home unless thier tuner is cut to prevent it, as for working tomorrow you get what you pay for and some work better than others.

Is it not that time of year for free sky codes? much better to wait for one of these to get your fix of crap tv for fre

You still pay a basic service price to the cable company though that people wouldn't if they weren't able to steal stuff on top.

It's like PSPs, if I couldn't get free games, I would never have bought the PSP, so why make it impossible to flash them?

No they'd be more subtle about it. Though for every customer they'd loose money who did decide to move provider, I'd imagine 1 would go down the honourable route.

Is the box chipped? Or the card?

If its the card Virgin cannot detect it

Which is why I own an Xbox but not a 360. It's all to do with the reward to hassle ratio at the end of the day

The reward to hassle ratio, I love that, just needs a snappy anagram now...

personally I'd just steer clear, my former boss John Reay was selling dodgy boxes round the pubs and was prosecuted by Virgin Media for £40,000, 300hrs community service and 12 months suspended sentence.

why should you get free stuff that all the other customers pay for, me included?

    Do they?

If I had one, my bill would be £11 for the phone but no calls. I'm sure they would prefer I paid the £50 as well for the TV programs I'd stolen.

All academic. I steal it a different way!:w00t: And Virgin wouldn't mind it one bit!
