Thought I'd start a thread to record what we've all learnt over the Christmas period with regards to deals and online vs high street shopping. If it goes well, maybe we could then put a collated one of the most popular togeather which, potentially, we could all look at next Christmas to remind ourselves. From my side:

1. If buying online - Get in as early as possible to avoid postage worries (I was waiting in Christmas Eve in the hope that 3 packages from play.com would come) but also bear in mind that most goods only have 30 day money back. So, if its likely to go back, leave it late.
2. Buy a Wii in October
3. There are some cracking deals on the high street on Christmas Eve for those that like to leave it late
4. Don't forget Quidco. It can really mount up over the period.
5. Don't overspend! Leave some money for the January sales which now start on 00:01 Christmas day!

I'm sure there are others...

If you buy presents early keep a list of what you have bought, and where you have hidden them:oops:
Don't trust your partner to get you want you really want or you'll end up with what they think you need!
Don't bother trying to drop hints about what you want Santa to bring you, write a list, be specific, buy it yourself.
Your kids won't like the same toys you did when you were a kid
