Christmas all time top selling single?

My daughter has a quiz at school and whilst we've been able to answer every other question, the above question is stumping us. I thought it was White Christmas but when you google it and look on different websites it's either White Christmas, Do They Know it's Christmas by Band Aid or Candle in the Wind (Diana version) by Elton John.

What do you think and which answer would you put?

I think I would google it.

Most sites seem to say White Christmas so I'd go with that.

I think I would google it.

As I said above, that's what I have done but different sites come up with the 3 above songs.

Depends

UK or worldwide

overall top selling or no1 at christmas etc etc

According to wiki

Crosby's single of "White Christmas" is recognized as the best-selling single in any music category and Crosby's recording has sold millions of additional copies as part of numerous albums, including his best-selling holiday collection Merry Christmas, which was first released as an LP in 1949 and has never been out-of-print since.

I think I'd answer...

"I thought it was White Christmas but when you google it and look on different websites it's either White Christmas, Do They Know it's Christmas by Band Aid or Candle in the Wind (Diana version) by Elton John."

if the quiz-master isn't specific enough, theres no wrong answer. I mean you could put down the name of the all time top selling Christmas single, sung in Norwegian by a dog with three legs and a fake moustache and still be right.

its band aid without any doubt if you are referring to TOTAL sales since release-if you are referring to sales for THAT particular year only then it will be white christmas ONLY if its worldwide sales,not british,if its british sales only then its band aid again.

hope Ive explained that well-lol!

Sales since release....

Three of the 7 top singles are Bing Crosby songs:

* White Christmas (1942) — Bing Crosby (50 million),
* Silent Night (1935) — Bing Crosby (30 million)
* Jingle Bells (1943) — Bing Crosby (6 million).

The remaining songs on the best selling singles list are:

* Do They Know Its Christmas (1984) — Band Aid (12 million)
* Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1949) — Gene Autry (8 million)
* The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t be Late) (1958) — The Chipmunks (6 million)
* The Little Drummer Boy (composed originally as a Czech carol in 1941) — Harry Simeone Chorale (6 million)

You would think it's Slade wouldn't you as it seems to be played all the time

I thought it was Last Christmas by Wham unless that is the most played song! Can't remember which now!

Would Bohemian Rhapsody by queen be up there? I know it was the christmas number one in 1975 for 9 weeks
