Christmas has lost the plot

I heard this on the Radio Devon today, and could not believe it.

A charity was asking for donation of new unwanted toys that can be given to families who are struggling this christmas. So the folks of Devon (and some companies) donated toys and gifts so the charity could hand out to these families (good idea i thought)

A few days later, some of the "mothers / fathers" came back with the donated gifts, and threw it back at the charity, at the same time they quoted:

"we dont want this rubbish, my kids wants Playstations, Xbox and Ipods"

The parents quoted that the kids would get bullied in school if the other kids found out they did not get PS/Xbox etc for xmas.

Is this what Britain has come to? Chav parents demanding from charities/donation Xbox and PS3?

very sad Britain is today, if you think, there are kids this xmas (in parts of the world) with no toys, and even no food

Im thinking this story has been SLIGHTLY embellished. Probably ONE parent made some innappropriate comment and the tale has now grown arms and legs and become this myth.

sounds like journalistic nonsense to me.

Thats an absolute disgrace and I find that story very hard to believe actually - or even blown up a bit. Just cant imagine the parents coming back and moaning that they didnt get xbox's/ps3

When I was a single I would have been grateful for any help from any one at Christmas.

well hopefully the charity rewrapped the gifts and gave them to deserving families who would appreciate the gesture, round here we have a motorcycle club that collect toys every year and they give them to social services to give out to the families or kids in homes and i have never heard of anyone chucking it back at them as the kids would prefer any toy rather than nothing on xmas morning.

One parent probably made a joke about not receiving an xbox... Was probably overheard and hey presto, Chinese Whispers.

I can.............had some weird trampy old mare at the post office today moaning at me whilst i was in the queue that the government doesn't care as by the time she's paid the rent, food, fags and booze it doesn't leave her enough for Bingo or Xmas pressies for the kids and they should increase benefits at this time of year. :w00t:

I just stood there hoping that she'd suddenly explode in flames. :-D

i can well believe it , i help out at my son's kids club run by the salvation army and over the last 10 days we've had letters from people who are " struggling to make ends meet" or pensioners asking for our help with the food parcels we do every year,
out of the 200 letters only 73 are getting food parcels , 50 of those will get a santa sack full of toys.
the reason its only 73 is we go to the house to check if the letters are genuine and beleive me the house i've been to last week for people who say they are broke, desperate, pensioners and ive seen some amazing house, big houses with private drives, people driving brand new cars, chavs pretending to be pensioners. it is disgusting.
we almost got a thump off one guy when we told him we wouldnt be helping ( he had a house 3 times bigger then mine, bmw on the drive, private drive way the lot) his reply was who the F do you people think you are checking up on people who write to you ! you can stick your parcels, you people dont check on who you give stuff to every other year.
so i told him that this is why we've started to ensure people who need help will get it, he went nuts.

so op i can truly agree with you.

Perhaps you are being a bit harsh on them, they might be MP'S, I'm sure they will give it back if they are caught.:w00t:

I can well believe this, my Nan had an spare old 28" CRT tv after she got a new 32" LCD one, so she rang the local Homeless Shelter, who said they didn't want it, because they only want newer LCD's and Plasmas :w00t:

You think that's bad, I invited a homeless family to my house for Christmas and made them a meal with all the trimmings and because the turkey was a little dry (whose isn't??), they murdered me...
