I'd recommend Prague. It's a beautiful place, cheap and nice beer. There's a bar called radodt I go to whenever I go and the cocktails are amazing. I used to go to Amsterdam but it's too expensive for me now. Hope you have a nice time wherever you go

Bar was called radost but the iPhone predictive txt changed it and I don't know how to edit post

Venice
Rome
Paris
Bruges
Dublin
Berlin
Amsterdam and Barcelona are both beautiful cities, but out of those two I'd pick Barcelona.

All the above though are fantastic cities to visit on a little break!

I like the not so touristy places. Amongst my favourite cities i have visited are :
Vilnius, Kiev, Tallinn, Cologne, Krakow & Venice ( touristy i know lol ) All can be reached relatively cheaply from london ...

PS - another thumbs up for Prague also

I'd recommend Munich, with the dates you have you will miss the actual oktoberfest, but there is still plenty going on and plenty of quality beer. The ratzkeller under the town hall is amazing, although I wouldnt go there if I was vegetarian.

Rome. u gotta do Rome!!!
#16
or if u dont mind a 7 hour flight do NYC!

Rome, we went in feb....only prob is so much to do in do little time, we had a great little hotel and had Ryan Air flights - regular bus service to the main station from the airport and then a metro to street hotel was on. Worth getting roma pass too as the metro is covered on it, or you can get a travel pass.

EDIT - hotel details http://www.hotelrediroma.com/ Very well priced for rome, lots of shops and restaurants in the locality and this brilliant bar round the corner http://www.barpompi.it/ on the metro line so easy to get to things the are more in the centre. Rome is so spread out that its not worth paying out loads for a dead centre hotel. HTH

Berlin.

All I remember about Rome was the traffic .... couldn't get across the road! I love Barcelona but Paris is my fave short break. I have heard that Bruges is nice - mind you all European cities seem to be so expensive now with the Euro, couldn't believe how dear Spain was this year.

Krakow in Poland is a nice place, cheap, good beer (about £1 a pint when I was there last year) and you can fly from Edinburgh on either easyjet or ryanair, which should bring the cost of flights down a bit...

Auschwitz is a must if you decide Krakow. Don't take the train though as it's so slow :( bus is far better :)

Just left Athens - fantastic city if you're into your history. Still spectacular if not - very cheap once you're their - attractions cost almost nothing.

Just got to Istanbul. Will see if that is any good...

It is - it's brilliant. You just have to go on the ferries for the hell of it. About 50p a journey anywhere & cheap drinks & snacks on board. Take care of your belongings at the Grand Bazaar & don't talk to strange men along istiklal caddesi ( seriously )

It is really good. Last day today. When did you go? Not quite that cheap now. Off to Turkish coast this evening...
