I cancelled my car insurance, because i had my car stolen and when we had it back it had to be scrap i never claimed on my car insurance as i didnt want to lose my no claims. Does anyone know how long it takes to get your money back? The car insurance was only renewed 2 months ago.

Were you paying monthly D/D or did you pay the year up front? Also how long were you with this insurance company as in the 1st year there are penalty charges for early cancellation so if you pay by D/D you may still owe them money. If it's by Annual payment, a refund minus cover and penalties should be no more than 28 days.

No problem, you should only be charged the insurance pro rata till the day you cancelled then. :) Hopefully it won't be much longer.

If they take an age then name and shame them here so we all know who to avoid.

i wouldnt use the company again. They still havent send my insurance certificate from when i renewed in may i only stayed with them because the were the cheapest.
the send me one certificate out which had last years date on and i didnt noticed till i went to renew my tax, which i tried to do at the end of the month. i had to do it online in the end.

Best to be avoided then. Another way to speed the refund up is to phone them periodically. When i worked in Car Insurance we used to put the payments through on priority to stop the whinging. :giggle:

i will try that, they are quick enough to take your money, but getting it back off them takes forever
