Claiming refund for undelivered parcels - Citylink

I sent an item to someone using ParcelMonkey via CityLink.

The item did not arrive at the intended address and all that was on the website was 'no one was in, card was left', however according to the intended recipient they said that no one had tried delivery or left a card.

The parcel is now on the way to me after they had clicked 'return to sender', so I would like to know whether I'm now entitled a refund of the delivery cost seeing as the parcel had not been delivered or for that matter even attempted?

No chance of refund, unless you can prove a card was not left.

They usually try 3 times i think, if the receiver clicked return to sender its there fault

Well the recipient contacted me on Thursday to inform me of the situation and that they even spoke to City-Link after the initial delivery date was supposed to have taken place and that city-link informed them that it would be delivered the following day but this does not occur.

Surely it would impossible to prove that a card was not left?

btw. The reason for the 'return to sender' was that it was intended for a birthday present and seeing as it was 2 days latter their was no point in getting it from the depot.

Exactly, no proof so i doubt you will get a refund, do you think the driver will own up and risk losing his job ?

City Link lie, simple
It would be up to City Link to prove they left a card, not the other way round. Unless its changed, when they card a property they had to take a note of the door colour, that can be a good starting point as they usually put white if they haven't bothered going to the door

These phantom deliveries with City link are quite common particularly if the place is hard to find

Yeh had it many times before.
I had one who apprently left me a card, i rang the local depo, and the woman on the phone was telling me the colour of my door ect.. An said it was 100% there had a delivery been attempted, Only thing is, It was apprently attempted as i was standing in the door having a fag ;) Amazing that isn't it..

Can only try, doubt you will get the delivery charge back..
Sometimes the courier will take a photo of the door.
