We have recenlty part exchanged our car for a renault clio 1.5 deisel

Its a 06 plate and we have only had it 3 weeks, earlier we broke down and called aa, turns out the gearbox has gone. The aa guy said its a £1000 fix

We have a 3 month warrenty from the garage, i hope it covers it, do these small warranties normally cover this if anyone knows

thanks

should hope so, the warranty usually only covers major parts, and this is one

I hope you have the warranty paper, as there will be details of how to go about claiming

Doubt it

really hope it does, bricking it now.The aa guy said if i dont change the clutch as well it will go in six months, just my luck, was going to have it professionally checked before we brought but not sure if they would have picked this problem up

Did the garage sell you a warranty or is it thier own ? If its a Warranty Holdings warranty, then good luck as they are a pain in the arse to deal with !!! so much so we get the customer to pay the bill & they claim the money back ! Normaly the warranty co. will ask for a strip & report, then decide what is going to be done, whilst trying to screw the labour rate down from the garage.

why does he think the gearbox has gone ?

if it all works out well, then it does make sense to replace the clutch whilst the gearbox is out, but buy the clutch yourself & give it to the garage to fit, that will save you a few quid, it dosn't take long to replace the clutch whilst's the box is out.

its there own warrenty, if the fix was a couple hundred i would not be that bothered if it didnt cover but £1000 is a bit different, do you know the rough fix cost rich.It struggled to go in second gear then started making loud noises, thats when we phoned him
#7
aa report says: when driving forwards the differential is locking up, stopping the wheels moving. The differential is part of the gearbox

yeah that would do it, could have possibly been leaking gearbox oil from a driveshaft oil seal, which over time would have emptied the box of any oil. if it had been leaking it should have been spotted at a PDI check or at the very least the gearbox oil level checked.

without getting into the realms of not fit for purpose & trading standards, as 3 weeks is no time at all, give the garage a ring in the morning & have a word with them. One thing though, personaly i wouldn't be happy if they offered a second-hand gearbox from a scrap yard, i'd be wanting something more substantional.

keep us posted
