Imagine there is a club with many members.
The club has strict rules written by an authority.
You cannot interpret the rules the way you see fit; you cannot make up your own rules - the rules are what they are.
If you do not follow all the rules of the club, you cannot be considered a member; you cannot pick & choose individual rules that suit you at the expense of other rules.
If someone claims to be a member of this club yet does not follow the rules of the club then it is an empty claim; they may as well claim to be from the planet Mars.
This is standard fare for many clubs, societies and organisations and I'm not aware of anyone having an issue with that.
Now imagine this club is an organised religion...
