Hey all,

Just completed COD4 Story 2nite (and plan to play it on the more difficult levels later)

But what is it about COD? where at the stories going? i cased through this so quickly, they cut the people jumping out on you now its just dog attacks.

All seems a bit **** really spesh for 35 quid +

The game looks and feels very special but all too short for your money, i know they are tayloring games towards there online play. but they shouldnt be cutting the story for the sake of it.

Your thoughts?

Yeah single player mode is short but i'll still be playing this online in 2 years time.Fantastic game, best of 2007 IMO.I can think of few great shooters (Gears, previous COD games) with very short single player campaigns.Still play them online now though.

Far superior to Halo 3 (a fair comparison) in all areas in my view.:)
#3
which console was it on?
#4
Story mode is short. Not stupidly short but if you play it well and dont just rush through the levels then your not getting the experience. Single player is still very good and very detailed and still one of the best single player campaigns i've played, but it really comes into its element in mutliplayer. PHWOAR. Anyone played hardcore?
#5
a mate said went through it all on easy really quickly, then i came round and put it on normal and he found it twice as hard. Yeh if you want it to last abit longer make it more difficult. a good game , but then i resent paying up to 40 quid for any game that isnt gta4
#6
Finished it on normal, tried it on Veteran and its mega hard,2 shot kills
#7
It's made for online play - totally class & well worth it !!

Level 19 atm

(ps i noticed tombigbee playing assasins creed)
#9
But still the dev team had 2 years to make this game yet its apprantly 5-6 hours long.
#10
Level 24 here :)

I like the Grenade perk - someone kills you & you drop a live grenade automatically - bye bye bad guy lol
#11
Only on level 10 here. Best online multiplayer I've played!! Still **** at it tho!! :giggle:
#12
Level 31 Captain here.
#13
to be honest i thought this was the best game i've ever played single player and will definately go back and try and get the achievments etc

i paid £35 but definately felt like i got my moneys worth, the graphics are sublime and the ingame action unbeatable and dont feel short changed at all, a few extra levels wouldnt have gone a miss but the fantastic multiplayer more than make up for it.

Anyone know what the point of the plane level after the credits was?
#14
level 22.... I hated the martydom perk till I got it.

I think the sniper rifles are a lot lett ineffective as in previous games. typical of infinity ward suffering from slight lag, you can have a clear headshot in your sights and it does nothing
#15
I noticed this too minstrel. I think they have improved the physics, ie take into consideration wind etc
#16
you think they'd give you an indication of wind speed direction so you can compensate..... now that would make a good feature.

I prefered the rifle in COD3, this is too much like COD2 with respects of the lag although they've just made it more difficult as you could kill with a sniper shot to the little toe. but hey thats just personal prefference, I just have to go halo style all guns blazing - which is why I have 0.98 kill to death ratio
#17
Its very pretty on the Xbox 360
Got it for my birthday :-D #

I'l be getting it on the PC as well for certain, always prefer FPS's on PC but its great for a mess about on with the console as well.
Not finished it yet, but thats mostly trying to get used to console controls since i havent played any FPS's on one for years.
#18
about 4 levels into veteran mode now, plan to take it online eventually, i still think its fairly short and this seems to be the growing trend with games now, gone are the days of a 30 hr title, lol

Its a letdown because when i was workin at gamestation the reps for activition said they had feedback about shortning the story and they planned to make it substantionally longer.

But i enjoyed it looking forward to mass effect now. assassins creed looks far too much like prince of persia for my liking
#19
Just finished it last night, and have to agree its very short.
Even getting to grips with the console control system i felt like i whizzed through it and then it was just finished.
#20
I don't think anybody will dispute the fact that it's pretty short, but boy is it good :-D
#21
Is there anywhere you can take a look at your online stats (online) like Halo 3 stats ?
#22
Kills and deaths and stuff compared to your friend list yes, choose barracks then leaderboards.
#23
All of the MoH and CoD games have been very short single player stincts, this one is particularly because this is mainly aimed for on-line play. Also I'm sure they wanted to improve it since the CoD3 multiplayer got such a slating for being poor.
#24
IMO games should make a longer Singleplayer/campaign mode, rather then have a short one and have a big multiplayer.Alot of people dont have xbox live/or internet and may feel even more let down by short games.

Think of it like this: the point of 3rd Gen consoles primarily is the online element so if you don't go online with your 3rd Gen console, your really only using approx 30% of its intended use. Its only going to get alot more on-line orientated in the future, you either get in or get left behind.

This game has been praised through the roof in most reviews.

HOWEVER....

The problem with a lot of game reviews these days is that they place far too much emphasis on the multi-player modes (and mark up games accordingly), when only about 20% of casual gamers are actually interested in multi-player.

If you just want the single-player game, it's probably not worth the asking price considering how short it is. Just rent it for an evening or weekend and you'll get your moneys worth.

Time trials anyone?
F.N.G
21.40 - Addbrown (Me)
27.80 - Donleeone
36.95 - The Reverend 66
40.70 - Dandoc 2
40.95 - Bobdefish
51.25 - Minstrel Man83
68.55 - TomBigBee
#31
is that the time trial thing at the begining? You get an achievement at 20secs, you need to shave 1.4 secs off your time add-man!

Maybe you should write down everyones scores compared to how many hours played :whistling:

From July 2006 60% of xbox 360 owners were on line.

Yes, but the majority of that 60% are using the free on-line service for downloading demos etc.

To play full-price commercial games on-line you have to pay a monthly/yearly fee, and the amount of people doing that is far lower.

On-line play on the 360 simply isn't considered that important (or worth paying for) to the majority of casual 360 owners.

Anyway, regardless of the figures, the on-line play is a BIG factor in the high review scores this game has received.
So if you're only interested in the single-player game, it makes much better sense as a rental since it's so short.

20% ??? Where did you get that figure from? A lot more people enjoy online gaming than ever before.

everybody i know that owns an xbox also has a subscription to xbox live:?
#36
5 people I work with have xbox 360, 4 have live

At home me and my girlfriend have live, my brother and 6 of his friends have live. They don't use it for just downloads they use it for multiplayer. While I think games should be longer in single player I don't think it should come at the expense of multiplayer.

Here's the question that should wrap it up, until Halo 3 came out would so many people have still been logging into Halo 2 if it had a longer single player and less multiplayer?
#37
one of the main things i look for when buying a game is online play. the experience isnt the same when playing single player.
[helper]#38
I COD 4 on multiplayer (LIVE) a bit like COD2 ?
#39
Everyone i know who has an xbox has the gold membership, i dont even play single player mode, Online is where the action is.

Has anyone played the DS version? How they achieved so much with the DS hardware I don't know.
