That's awful, although Colin hasn't been involved much in the rallying of recent been watching some of the older years on DVD - the rally drivers at times seem to be a lot more gentlemanly than in many other sports. I can't remember which race it was when Colin rolled the Focus which his crew bent back into place and got him going again then he rolled it again! With a few more kicks to try and get the boot back together, Colin was off again with something that looke more like a pickup than a rally car...hard to tell which direction it was supposed to face either. I hope they announce who was on it soon :(

RIP Colin McCrae - Legend.
RIP the aircraft pilot at the airshow too.

R.I.P that hes dead, as he was still young and was a very good sprotsman.

I dont like threads like this though, because people who dont deserve to die, die each and everyday and they go un-noticed, but people kick up a fuss because he was a cleb, which I dont like.

RIP Colin McCare

RIP.

its weird. that day a blue helicopter came buzzing quite low over the village where i live, not too far from lanarkshire. Hard to believe that Colin McRae was probably in it and it crashed. What a damned waste.

Why bother ****ing posting in it then?

He was far from being a celeb, he was the first British person to win the WRC Championship, and excelled at his chosen field!

People post threads like this because other people are interested and would like to express their sympathy. Don't get me wrong, if Joe Bloggs next door but 2 to me dies tomorrow, I am hardly gonna come on here and tell everyone am I?

RIP Colin Mcrae, Sportsman, Husband and Father!!!!

Ps - his young son is supposed be one of the other victims as well.
#21
What a waste. RIP.

my thoughts are with his family and friends

im kind of with harvie a little bit on what he said. I do think its very very sad the guys died and he was a legend etc, but good people die on a daily basis and go unmentioned.

My mums got Multiple Sclerosis and shes a mother, she works part time, and shes battling one of the must slow diseases crippling her on a day to day basis. yet when she passes away no one will know. despite her doing so much.

RIP To the guy though, he was an absolute legend.

Personally I think any thread like this is very sad! I'm sure that if, for example, Hawkio starts a thread saying that his / her mother had passed away, then I'm sure most replies would be people sending their sympathy / condolences etc.

This news for me is very upsetting. Always been a big rally fan. Also a colleague and friend of my wife was killed in a plane crash in June in malawi His name was Colin too. Now I know that it really has no relevance, but it brings it all back and is still very sad.
Also the fact that 2 very young children were on board the helicopter yesterday makes it even more tragic.

My heart goes out to all that have been effected by this.

I've made this post in order for everyone to pay there respects to one of the true greats of Motor Sport along with everyone that's been effected by this tragic event.

Rally driver Colin McRae - known to millions of gamers as the face of the Colin McRae Rally game series that he helped create - died along with his young son in a helicopter crash on Saturday.

The 39-year-old, an experienced pilot, had been flying a Twin Squirrel helicopter after a visit to a village near his home when it burst into flames. The crash also claimed the lives of his son Johnny's friend Ben Porcelli, 6, and Graeme Duncan, 37.

Senior figures throughout the world of motorsport have paid tribute to McRae, who became the first Briton to win the World Rally Championship drivers' title in 1995. David Richards, McRae's former boss at Subaru, told the BBC that he had an "extraordinary spirit that you just can't define".

McRae has been associated with the world of videogames for almost a decade - his relationship with British publisher Codemasters has seen him lend his name and considerable expertise to the creation of half a dozen acclaimed Colin McRae rally games.

Everyone at Eurogamer has been shocked and saddened to learn of this weekend's events, and our thoughts are with McRae's family.

Very sad news :-( RIP.

I'm disgusted the way the press dealt with it though, Originally it was "It could be Colin McRae in the helicopter" It wasn't actually known for sure, How horrible would that be to think a member of family has died.

Its like a family liaison officer knocking on your door saying "we think your son/daughter/whoever may have died, But we don't actually know for sure, so we'll tell you in a few hours..."
#37
Im completing DIRT in his honour
#38
tragic news, but i find it moe tragic that the fact his son died. At least at the pearly gates Colin looks back and can be proud of what he acheived. His son never had the chance the live being taken at such a young age.

On a similar theme to Dandoc i was left thinking what they will do with the franchise as i bet colin mcrae 2008 is already in progress and kinda thought it might be good for next years one to be an honerable edition to the man?

Just got back off holiday to hear about this, (no english tv where i was)

Totally gutted.

This was his helicopter, looks solid enough, they are saying engine failure :-(
