I paid to use collect+ but have decided not to go ahead with the delivery. I contacted them for a refund and they say that they can't refund me as it is not an error on their part!! WTF?! He said he had contacted head office and that's their decision.

So I have paid for a service that I am not using and have no way of getting my money back...is this right? Can they do that? Any help would be gratefully received.

I assumed that they may operate like a supermarket in that if you don't use the product, you can get refunded. Like a clothes shop perhaps...maybe even a train company who would take off an admin fee but still refund!

if you order and pay for something thats it your commited, they are not at fault so no need to refund


But if you choose to return or not use a service, surely they should refund as a matter of courtesy? Like most companies do, in my experience.

Afraid usually I agree with the end users, not the big companies. But you booked it and committed to the service, their customer reps are very friendly and helpful, so maybe ask them if they won't refund whether you could postpone the service and just have a 'credit' to use it in the near future.

That's at their discretion though. Basically, if you buy something from a shop, and then decide you don't like it, they're not obliged to give you a refund. You're only entitled if the goods are faulty.

Buying something over the internet is different due to the distance selling regs, but I'm pretty sure that only applies to tangible items....

Ok...but there is nothing in their terms and conditions stating this (that I can see) whereas parcel monkey do state that if you cancel, they will only refund half.

I looked at t&c as well and no mention of refund either, so it looks like they just let it default to what the law says in the case of cancellations

I hope no one is cruel....just explaining why i came on here for advice. I decided not to use collect+, as I was being nice to someone who had agreed to it then changed their mind when they realised what it involved. They needed door to door hence the change in couriers.

Thank you DLM...I made a mistake and used the forum to see what I could do about it. I accept the advice given so don't understand why people have to be sarky....but then I forget that this is HUKD. Will develop a thicker skin. Just tired and hurt easily just now as was in hospital last week for 5 days and it's knocked the stuffing out of me.

My fella will hopefully have his op soon to removed the tumour in his saliva gland.

I really would ring them again and ask if you can have your account credited to use at a later date, I personally wouldn't have expected them to refund, the post office wouldn't if you bought stamps etc and changed your mind, but they may be more willing to credit the account, may be worth asking whether you could put the £4.99 towards a door to door courier, as I believe its the home delivery network who do collect+, they also do a door to door courier service too via there own website

Thank you for your advice. I'll write to them. Not up to dealing with people on the phone just now. Brain is addled with all the painkillers I am taking.

no.... I'm chalking it up to experience. They are paying the extra postage it is going to cost to go by other means. I'm too nice for my own good.

Hi Fern,

Some fairly good news about my fella's tumour.

They are operating soon and will take a skin graft from the side of his head to fill the hole which the tumour is currently filling if needed.

To some of us, it is. Believe me, I'd much rather be working than having been ill for over 2 years. When the NHS terminate you cos you are too ill to work for them, you know you have hit rock bottom! They went against their own occupational health dept! Lost 2 more jobs through ill health.

Keeping a council flat going on my own, still having to pay some rent plus I have to pay back working tax credit through no fault of my own...money is tight. It's the difference between eating healthily by buying more fruit/veg over eating rubbish to a tight budget. More healthy food will aid my recovery somewhat.

Until you have been in this situation, you don't realise how bad it can be. Please be aware that I don't choose to live like this. I would love to laugh off £4.99.

If i'm honest, i did think the same when i read it was just £4.99,

I have been in a similar situation to you.

I had my mortgage to pay out of my benefits.

Thank god I had a supportive fella who paid for food, council tax, car, utilities, TV licence etc..

I would probably be homeless now if I hadn't had him and my saving's when I resigned from my job a few year's ago due to illness.

Hope things improve soon x x

I did similar with a couple of couriers, WheelCarrier and Parcel2Go, booked, and then, due to Paypal issues, decided to cancel. I fist e-mailed Parcel2Go, and, as i thought there was no chance of a refund, asked for a postponement, they said i couldn't postpone, only refund and rebook. I then e-mailed the second, booked through WheelCarrier, and they also refunded.

When I found out i had to cancel, i was expecting that i would have to take the hit on the cancelled delivery, but the company refunded out of goodwill.

I'm not sure what the point of my post is, but you'll just have to put it down to experience. I'm guessing some of the money they keep from cancellations, helps keeps the price low in the first place.

In 2005 I was homeless...at the same time lost my job in the NHS, was very ill and my 'family' turned their back on me. I had made some male friends through a dating site and I tell you what...they helped me more than my close female friends. They gifted me money as early birthday and Xmas presents to help me out through the toughest time of my life. Those same male friends are my rocks to this day.

Give them a phonecall their customer reps are very good, and very nice. I think I've spoken to most of them! And if you have any problem give me a PM and I'll even send you over the Managing Directors details (even have his mobile) :thumbsup:
