College queries

Hi im thinking of going back into learning and to my local college
But the one thing deterring me is the cost

As im 18 now and will be 19 july 4th 2008 (with the course starting in 2008)

It will cost me £600 for the course plus travel fees (whereas my friend gets free college atm at 18 and a oyster card for free travel)

Does anyone know if i would get it free if i applied when 18 or is it age you start

Want to take this course in photography
http://intranet.croydon.ac.uk/all/progdex.cgi?r=11&f=748.dat
There are 3 levels so id hope to do them all meaning it would take me till im 21 but at least id have some qualifications rather than just my dismal gcses and not a lot else

Wish id gone to college instead of 6th form as that was a waste of my time

Thanks in advance

Daniel

You do 6th form because you can't get into college with your current grades, maybe you should have planned things a bit better?

He'll have to pay.

My sisters friend who was 19 on 30th august this year had to pay £500 for her course because she turned 19 2 days before september the first.

You'd get it free if you were 19 on 2nd september 2008.

Didnt you completely pooh-pooh the idea of a course of driving lessons when I suggested it a few months back? :?

What is it you plan to do with the qualification, are you planning to become a professional photographer? I have to say I don't think it's a great choice of course as it's extremely specific, even within photography in which the digital medium is extremely common. Given this is going to cost you a fair bit of both time and money, it doesn't seem like a very good investment. Professional photography I'd also say can be more difficult to get into these days as cameras are much easier to use and significantly better - when I bought my first prosumer camera back in 2002 it was a Fuji 4900z which was a 2MP bridge camera. I recently picked up an E-3 which is where the current prosumer cameras lie, this is an advanced digital SLR which is a far better camera in all areas. The point here is that these prosumer cameras and similar can produce good enough prints for some people without involving a professional photographer.

It really depends on what you want to do, from what you've said a more practical, general qualification which is universally accepted as a level of ability would be far more useful to you.

As for driving lessons, depends on where you live but personally I think the sooner you get it out of the way the better especially if you have parents or siblings at home that can give you practice.

Dan, have you considered giving a poor African child a chance? We'll buy the flights, all you will have to do is the swap. I'm sure your parents would appreciate it.

If you still wish to drain our country and our will to live, then I have outlined your future below :

Have crazy idea.
Explain crazy idea, become disheartened.
Cue me.
Have crazy idea.
Explain crazy idea, become disheartened.
Cue me.
So on and so forth.
Until you take up either drugs, alcohol or gambling. Or possibly a combination of all.

Care to skip the crazy ideas and go to the last step?

Driving is overrated by the way and "parcel force man delivery" is a service rarely required, I believe the term for that is the ambulance service.
