Comet Code Fiasco - for those who have their orders stopped etc

I thought I'd start this thread for those that like me have had their Comet order stopped because Comet cocked up!

I received a 40% code on Tuesday night and placed my order Wednesday night for £1400 after discount. At time of order I couldn't choose a delivery time and didn't receive a confirmation order as (I was told when I phoned) it had to be manually processed as it was a large order and therefore has extra security issues. I then get a phone call Saturday 5pm to tell me that the T&C's have changed and that I can only use it on one item.

I have told them to hold my order as it is until I have received consumer advice. My hubbie is going to ring The consumer advice line on 08454 04 05 06 tomorrow.

As the original thread is expired and also full of begging posts I thought it would be helpful for those having problems to discuss it further here.

UPDATE - my order has been delivered and they took the correct money from my credit card. My comet account is still showing my order without a confirmation number or delivery date and status and TBC!!! My advice if you get the dreaded call is to ask them to hold the order and cross your fingers lol!

Oooo i've got a 15% one and i was thinking of only ordering one item,a netbook,i was gonna order a Dyson but changed my mind,i don't know whether i should now,might get a knock back!

il'd just accept it for the one item. you are taking the pee a bit ordering that many items.

People have had success with multiple orders on collection items today. You could try that. I would have collected except I was ordering 2 identical items and you can't collect if 2 item are the same:?

The voucher clearly states that it is one voucher per transaction. they changed the T&C's sometime later to add the one item bit. Many other people sucessfully used it on multiple items.

They probably had it in their T&C's that they could change their T&C's.

One thing learnt: If a person/company is being generous; don't take the pee

No it definately didn't say that. This is what my voucher says and it is also what was on the website at time of entering.

Terms and Conditions
Voucher codes will only be live until 4.00pm 24/12/09. Only one voucher code can be used per transaction. Codes can only be used on transactions made at comet.co.uk and not in any Comet store. Your thank you single use code will be sent to you when you sign up to receive email from us. Only one code will be sent per email address registered. Minimum code value will be 5% saving, maximum code value will be 50% saving.

it's not really fair though when some have had their orders go through & not others so they can't say that their t&c is only one item :whistling:
i ordered 3 items also on wednesday evening with a 30% code which came to over a grand after discount & i phoned on friday & had my delivery & installation date confirmed & was given delivery reference number & have had the money taken out of my account :)

I've got a 40% i'm waiting to use on multiple items, hopefully later this week. Good idea starting this thread, the other one was just getting ridiculous with all the begging posts...

I'm fairly confident that Comet will have to accept the vouchers for multiple items, there's quite a few reasons that make me think this but mainly.

1. The vouchers have been given out as prizes. Everyone (initially) got a unique code and my email said I'd 'won' the voucher. When we gave them our email addresses we were entering a competition.

2. They've already accepted loads of multiple item orders from other customers.

I'm sure when companies run promotions like this and give out prizes there's no way they can be allowed to honour the prize for one 'winner' and not another, nor are they allowed to alter the terms and conditions after the prize has been awarded.

I placed an order a couple of days ago with several items and have not heard anything yet. It states TBC and the status is in "processing" by the call centre.

I have not had a delivery date nor an invoice or confirmation number etc.

If there is a problem I will obviously question the fact how some people have used the code for multiple items and had their orders delivered, so how can comet possibly treat customers differently and if they do, what their basis for doing so is.

I will mention that many of my friends and family had used a voucher on multiple items and had theirs delivered, so how could my circumstances be any different.

I think if anything is going to let them authorise code usage for multiple items, it's because they have done so already for other customers.

The t&c's are important as well, seeing as how the terms were in black and white when the vouchers were firstly issued, so hopefully these reasons will stand a chance.

And me please! I have ordered a £600 (Well £515 with code) Samsung fridge from Littlewoods and they still haven't delivered 1 month later...
Would love to order it again from somewhere that will probably deliver it - Littlewoods took about 3 months to deliver my Wii so am not holding out much hope right now :roll:

I have a few 20-30% codes i plan to use between myself and family and want to order multiple items so am keen how people get on with this

I tried Consumer Direct a number of times today but with work commitments couldn't hang on the line long enough to finally get through to an advisor! I have emailed Watchdog this evening though and ask anyone in a similar situation to do the same.

Good News!!! Comet phoned out of the blue today and said they had a delivery for us and would be with us in 25 mins. Hubbie rushed home from work to accept it. Phoned credit card company and correct money taken so its a going to be a very merry christmas here!!!

when you made the order with the original terms and conditions that was your contract and any further terms cannot be changed. unless somewhere they've put "subject to alteration at any time" or something

Well that was my feeling and we did try that arguement over the phone but they were quite adamant which was why we told them we would be seeking advice.

I received a code for 50% on tuesday night with original t&c's and put a mutiple order in sat night only to be e-mailed on monday saying my order had not been processed with new t&c's.I phoned them and they told me all of my order was out of stock :roll: stating new t&c's again so i chose one of the items instead.Maybe I should of put up more of a fight!

The same happened to me.

I've still to phone them regarding the order.

An email stated the order was refused because items were out of stock.

Comet's online ordering system is a joke anyway.

I'll be sure to stand my ground when I phone but we'll see what happens I guess.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Good for you,I would of put up more of a fight but some items were for a friends kids and my items were mostly xmas presents for the kids also so I had no choice but to back down.Good luck to ya!

I used a 15% code yesterday to order, and this morning i received an email saying it was out of stock (it had to be manually processed earlier). It is still showing in stock, and i bought it right after it appears new stock came in. Now i am without my item nor my code. they cancelled my order and told me to contact the sales team if still wish to order the item. is there anything i can do?
