Hi all,
I am thinking of opening a website online to sell things such as mobile phones.
I am not a business and just a very small private seller.
Seeing as i am doing this, do i need to be registered as a business or am i legally allowed to do this without any repercussions from HM customs?

All helpful advice is very welcome.

You need to be registered as a business or a sole trader, you then need to pay NI contributions and tax on your profits.
You need to have a registered business addresss and a phone number would be an advantage. People want to see you're reliable and trust worthy.
You're website must display your address, you can't charge VAT until you register for it (it's compulsory after £66k of sales per annum).

Thanks for that.
So if i register as a sole trader, any ideas on how much tax and NI contributions i would have to pay/make.

NI class 2 is £30 every 3 months and you pay NI class 4 on your profits, and you will pay the normal tax rates on your profits

Hopefully this will be the start of something good.

If it's contract phones most companies won't touch you if you don't have a vat number & have a clean credit rating they would also look at an amount of money up front
