There are no remedies against the common cold, mainly because the virus changes shape every year so there are no 'antibodies' which know how to fight it straight away, hence if we made a vaccine this year, it wouldnt work next year.

Tomm stop being logical and just sprout some rubbish!
banned#4
no remedies, apart from try to eat healthily and drink plenty, the healthier you are the easier it is to fight off

Drinking orange juice every day will help you getting one, but in your condition, you will have to sit it out :giggle:

Also colds work in 3, 3 day cycles, the first 3 days you get it, the next 3 days you have it and the last 3 days it goes so that on the 10th day it is gone. Don't count the cough you have afterwards as this is not part of the cold cycle. :whistling:

Worth a shot, some vitamin c is better than none.

Boots Cold Capsules (day and night versions available) - not a remedy but kill the symptoms fairly well for me
and I have heard that vitamin tablets vary in strength and quality but not necessarily in direct comparison to the price. I do a multi vit from Tesco value range when i remember (AND not ive just sneezed!!!! Thanks guys! LOL)

im going to try this one tomorrow seems easy and i have everything
1. Boil some water and fill a mug 3/4 of the way up.
2. Stir in a generous tablespoon of natural honey.
3. Squeeze in half a fresh lemon.
4. Optionally add 1 or 2 teaspoons of sugar.
5. Stir well, and allow to cool for a few minutes.

good drop of whisky, add some lemon juice and hot water and sugar -take 2 paracetamals with it and go to bed ! Works for me !
#26
on a quick note - Kiwi fruits have more vitamin C in them than an orange, just to bring your levels up! agree with Lulus.Mammy that warmed lemonade is good, even if it doesn't work there is something comforting about it x

Boiling a kettle and filling a bowl with the water and then put your face down in it with a towel over you always seems to make me feel a bit better when i've got a stinking cold, not sure if it's just psychological or not though!

I can't drink Lemsips or anything like that, they make me want to vomit :giggle:

Ouch..............face in boiling water. :? :whistling:

Not actually touching the water you fool :giggle:

...brief word of caution...check the active ingredients if taking a 'preparation' as well as paracetomol. Medication like Lemsip, already contain paracetomol, so you could be doubling your dosage.
#31
Drink alot ALOT of orange juice

Take echinacea ... when you feel a cold coming on :-)

this doesnt show anything but ive jsut got the box out and it says
Boots Pharmacy Day cold and flu relief capsules. contains paracetamol, pholcodine, pseudoephedrine hydrochloride!and allura red (e129)

Like I said before - it works for me - i take it night times to help me breath and therefore sleep - I dont do the night ones for the simple fact I only buy the day ones.
