OK, Could you read this post:-
http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72374http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72374
and if Members think it's a good idea (at least 60% in favour) then I'll contact Paul (Admin) for some help and guidance.

It's a 'private' poll so nobody will know who voted or how and for one day only.

As i've said, you can count me in.

What a fantastic idea.

Whilst being a great one off gesture are you not opening up the floodgates for bogus sob stories.

Then you wil have the 'you helped them, why not me' posts.

For this reason I say no.

Not being selfish but I doubt there are many on this forum that have not had their own share of bad luck and got on with it.

While I do agree with your sentiments, I feel it would be wrong to single out one member over another. Some members may have worse 'luck' but they choose not to bleed these pages with their woes.

Sorry if that seems harsh (don't want to it to seem that way  ), but I don't want to jazz it up so that it's all very PC and all that :?

Fair point and I agree with you, this is only a one off.
I donate a lot to the CF Trust and I just thought I'd try and help somebody who is having a run of bad luck on here.

Voted no because I'm weary that it would open the floodgates for all sorts of sob stories as mentioned by Greg.
Nice idea though, just don't think that setting a president is a good idea.

Fair enough and a good point.

OK, point taken.

Nobody has to explain how they have voted. It's a 'private' poll so nobody would know either way.

I think its a lovely gesture dino but I voted a no

Now Its terrible what happened, Don't get me wrong, But there are worse people off in the world, Living on the streets without a penny to their name, You've seen the adverts of starving children etc.

As much as it would be a nice gesture, It really wouldn't be fair to single out one from another as has been said.

Yes, The car has been left in complete state, But it isn't the end of the world and with suspected criticism, Thats just the way of life, I don't know one person down there that hasn't had their house/flat broken into, Their car stolen/broken into, Beaten up, Or just mindless vandalism.

"Not my problem" (On poll) seems a bit of an arrogant statement to make, No, Its not my problem but that doesn't mean I don't care what goes on or can't sympathise with someone thats had the misfortune of parts off their car nicked.

I've therefore voted "No, not a good idea", Your hearts in the right place and I'd love to help, But I can't afford to chip in and help everyone when something goes wrong and I wouldn't like to be selective of who I do help and who I don't.

I think this thread should be locked now as it might start to kick off into one, points have been made. Maybe even deleting might be better, no offence Dino, but when the evening crowd come in it will start again.

Great idea but maybe we should start a Cyber Love Club instead and pass on good vibes that way :giggle:

There is no reason to close the thread/poll, Everyone is entitled to their opinion and if the poll swings to "yes its a good idea" then at least 8 people would be helping out.

More than 8 for a 60% yes.
Anyway, everybody has made some fair points, I'll let this run and see what happens.

Voted 'Not my problem'. I visit this site to get bargains and (occasionally) to help someone with their techno-setup, not to participate in another charity project.
If project goes ahead, then so be it, just don't expect me to be part of it. If it doesn't then again, so be it, just don't expect me to celebrate its cancellation.

BTW, in case if project goes ahead, would it be possible to exclude 'charity' posts from search?

I was positive I was going to vote Yes before I reread the thread and all comments.

I think its the most wonderful idea Steve, you are so kind to even suggest it, and I would most likely chip in this time. But what about next time?

If this became a regular thing then who would provide the merchandise?
How many people will still be buying tickets after the first few?
How do we select whos 'worthy'?
What if someone has a bull story?

I'm sympathetic to their case and think its a great gesture, but I voted no because it will open the floodgates for many many more. You might even get people joining up to tell a sob story and get some dough off HUKD.

I feel guilty for voting no which is why I want to express my opinion. But I'm just thinking about the future consequences for the site and us as a community. I have plenty of community spirit and help where I can, but is this the right kind of help to give knowing the bad elements we can attract?

Any chance of putting a brief overview of what this is about in the OP? So far I am on page 2 of that thread and still don't know what I am voting on...I think about 80% of potential voters would have already given up on working it out...
#20
I voted yes because I like to help others out, hoping that they will 'pass it on' when things pick up in their own lives.

Saying that; I respect others reasons for not voting yes.

I don't think this thread needs closing because there are no rights or wrongs in this and each are entitled to there own views and convictions.

Credit to Steve for wanting to help but as others have said "Where will it end?!?!?"
No offense to 7stone4 but she's working, able-bodied & has had some bad luck with a car worth thousands?!?!(that's insured)....how many of the people that have said how terrible it is have given money to ANY registered charity in the last month?
Sorry, but I can think of so many causes more worthwhile than this to contribute the little I have to spare to....

Edited with apologies for skimming posts!!!!! (Cheers to Iom-RF...it was post #40!!!)
#22
Err, I thought 7stone4 was a woman?
#23
It would be wrong to close this thread, as basically it is just asking for your opinion via a voting system.

So where's the harm in that?

While I hate to sound harsh, everyone's car gets damaged every once in a while. We had to pay for our door panels to be resprayed when our car was vandalised recently.... does anyone want to give me some money? Sorry :-(

totally agree
It is not fair and must be awfull for op you get something nice and someone spoils it .but we all have terrible runs of bad luck but work through it .
the op has insurance so at least she isn't left with the bill .i know you pay the excess which is a blow as it is high but it is better than paying the whole bill .

As mentioned a few times, its a great idea, but there are people worse off in the world.

Id be pretty gutted if it happened to me, but id pick myself up and get my fella to sort me some parts out (me being a woman id get robbed! wheras there less likely to rip him off, plus he knows a bit about cars :-D)

End of the day, its the thought that counts, and it was nice of you to think of someone else in that manner steve :-D

Oh, and someone vandalised my car (broke a wing mirror, and scratched some unmentionable word on my car) but i got my fella to T-Cut it out, and bought a wing mirror - sorted!

This poll should have finished today, I must have put the wrong date in. I'll ask a Mod to end it.
Thanks for all the votes and comments, a lot of good points have been made and I appreciate all the comments.
I think I should have thought this out a bit better before posting the idea, even though I'm a very 'blunt' Yorkie I like 'helping' people who are less fortunate than myself or are having a run of bad luck.
Anyway,
Nuff said on this, I'll let it drop.
