complain to OFT about Cadburys Creme Egg prices

46p each everywhere, forget the multipacks and 2 for 80p deals this is about the price for one Creme Egg. Seems to me Cadbury must be putting pressure on retailers not to sell for less than 46p. Someone who used to work for Woolworths mentioned last week that Cadburys mess with supply to shops that sell at discounted rates.

If you go to the OFT website you can email a complaint about this anti-competitive price fixing practice: http://www.oft.gov.uk/contactus#named3

The 2 for 80p deal seems to be very common as well, I bet they're in on that too.

I've noticed this, Coke espesially seems to be upping the prices, Pepsi tends to be cheaper, so does Irn Bru.

Some supermarkets dont even stock single cans though, which sucks.

That's cool but it's just one retailer, the rest are all the same, it's uncanny. And think about it, if B&M can sell for 39p the rest do not need to charge 46p.

Think you may find it's to do with the Bank of England using quantitative easing making it a lot more expensive to import. Cadbury's have also started using Fair trade cocoa beans.

If I don't like the price I don't buy.

absolutly digusting just one big ball of sugar! ewwww

absolutly amazing just one big ball of sugar! weeee
#15
quantitive easing by bank of england means our curencies value decreases by a small margin every time, this makes it cost more to import the same amount as before, so in effect prices increase, so umm soak it up and pay your 5p extra for your ball of sugar or dont eat it? as much as i like creme eggs im not going to cry over 5p if im going to pay 40p or thereabouts for a ball of sugar, tasty sugar at that!
#16
how do you eat yours :)

looks like you don't as their to expensive lol
#17
mmm just had mine :D and yes.......... 2 for 80p att wilkos

Bull. That doesnt force all shops to charge 46p.

Consider them as a treat then , chocolate bars are placed around this price, as well as packets of crisps, so I consider it as standard.

Is this thread a joke? You didn't really waste minutes of your life on this stupid complaint did you?

I say raise prices to 50p - its a nice round figure, which is exactly what you will have if you eat too many.

BOOM BOOM!

I remember 5 years ago now around July there was a corner shop that often had reduced stuff in close to sell by date, within a month it went from like 5 for a £1 to 10, to 12, to 15, eventually got like 25 eggs for £1

I gained loads of weight that summer eating 2 or 3 at a time!

You're still not getting my point at all! Price fixing is illegal! Treat or not why allow a company to break the law?

Cos it's 46p.

Would you be happier if a few shops were selling them for 45p? Even if you ate 100 in a year you would be £1 better off. I suggest there are more importnat things in life to get angry about.

Apathy breeds oppression. This may seem small but if you ignore this what does it actually take for you to stand up and take notice?

This isnt about me wanting to save 5p an egg, it's about a company abusing its position and trying to control retailer's pricing.

No I'm not missing the point - I totally disagree with you, and don't care in the slightest about the point you are making.

I'm not sueing Cadbury.

And RRPs are not there to force everyone to charge that price. In fact I think RRPs were banned for most products and the correct term is "Suggested Retail Price" or SRP.

Out of interest, have you actually complained to the OFT about the prices? I'd love to have been a fly on the wall when the OFT assistant put the phone down :)

I wouldn't say it's apathy. I would say that companies like Tesco and Walmart have enough buying power not to be controlled by a manufacturer of chocolate eggs. If Cadburys were seriously forcing Tesco to sell the eggs at 46p do you really think they would stock them? What % of Tesco's turnover do you think Creme Eggs account for in a fiscal year. I doubt you know and without hard facts you have no grounds to complain. Seems your argument is based on anecdotal evidence as the Sainsbury example proves. There are loads of products that sell for the same price everywehere, usually the SRP. What makes the shops deviate from the SRP is if it is worth competing on price for a particular product. The supermarkets have obviously decided that the price of a Creme Egg is unlikely to impact on who shops in their stores.

I emailed them.

and said what?

Dear Sir,

I am extremely concerned off the egg fixing scandal. tescos sell them at 46p, sainsburys at 48p, ocado and asda dont sell them singularly. This is disgusting as its blatant price fixing :-D

My local store sells them at 49p. Needless to say, I wont ever darken their doors again! :x

Your distressfully,

sexist male chauvanist mccrick :giggle:
