Completely Free Antivirus program

Hi, just saw the mcafee post and thought I'd mention AVG free (for those that dont already use it), its a completely free product made by Grisoft and it is updated daily, I have used it for years and have never had any problems, they also do a free antispyware suite that I dont use, but I would expect it to be of similar quality.

For information, I also use windows Firewall and have never had any problems - often the firewalls that come bundled with AV suites are pointless as you've got a firewall built in to windows and generally you have one in your router too (if you have a netgear, or a BT homehub at any rate, cant speak for all of them).

When navigating the AVG site be aware they also do a corporate AV suite that is NOT free, so be careful you dont download that instead or they WILL ask for money.

Another vote for Avast. I've been using the free version on 4 machines for several years, and it's never let me down.

I notice a post a few days ago for AVG 7.5 PRO EDITION free for 12 months (normally around £21). I have downloaded and installed (no need to uninstall the free edition if you have it) and running fine as AVG always has. Free offer expires on 17/1/2008, licence runs until 1/12/2008.

Same here, have used AVg for years but tried Avast after people here raved about it, but I found it more resourse hungry and not as user friendly as AVG -imho

Also what I have read teh AVG Pro version offered by ComputerActive offers very little more than the free version of AVG.

The main advantage is you can set user defined scans so it leaves out external drives, memory cards seperate drives you use just for music etc.

Sorry I can see why the confusion.
AVG pro over AVG free thats why I quoted the part about the free download of avg pro not realising id left the part about avast in.
