Thats the main problem when you compress they get OOS and loose quality, their was a programme which compressed to around 350MB but cant remember the name!! Why do you need to compress it?
#2
i use a program called cucusoft to compress avi files to psp format works great only takes around 15 mins to do
#3
I thought id need to so i can download more movies lol...maybe not?

I hope to have a big collection someday.
#4
if your downloading it, why compress it? whats the format you are downloading?
#5
Get a bigger hard drive ;)

Where are you downloading from? what are you playing from? Ive seen some very good HD-rips coming in at 600mb using different codecs

Edit: my bad. The hd-rips are bigger

downloading from rapidshare.

Im playing them using VLC media player at moment if thats what you mean?

Its an avi file.

just get a external harddrive to store them on if you want to keep them, not worth compressing them because the odds are you will reduce the quality even more than it is.
#8
To be honest if you want to keep them watchable then the 600mb ones will prob ahve to stay like that.

On the forum you use for your downloads search for "300mb" or "x264" and you will prob find some good releases at 3-500mb

there are quite a few programs to do what you wany but without trying them I could not say which are any good, are you compressing them for home use or mobile such as psp, as the quality will really suffer when played on a tv.
I second Titchimp get a bigger hard drive there are always external ones turning up on here

Its the type of codec used when making the video. Means it can be smaller than normal xvid but retain the quality

If there only 700mb anyway just go get some discs from ukdvdr (100 dvd for about £15.00) and you get 6-7 files per dvd making 600-700 films on the discs.
Thats what I do anyway as I have a divx dvd player.

Maybe my use of Good was a bit too strong. I mean they probably wont compare to your 8gb rips (the 3gb ones might) but some people are spending a long time getting the HD rips smaller and maintaining the quality.

Well i'd rather download an 3Gb file than an 8Gb file. - the last film i downloaded was the Ruins...Carp film but cus it took 2 days downloading (8Gb) I feel as though i have to enjoy it...

Yeah i agree, thats why i tend to watch files 700-1500mb. I'm not too bothered about the quality, considering my screen i only 22" in the seem to look fine played off my ps3.
