the laptop shouldnt have anything to do with the PS3.. how is the PS3 connected to the internet?

by an ethernet cable,it finds the internet but fails on a dns error i have searched the internet for the last few days, ive tried using different dns numbers but it still fails.ive tried all the other tricks like turning off the ps3 and laptop and turning them back on again.the eror number if its any help is 80710102,thank you for your help.

Do you have the PS3 pluged into a router?
It sounds like a DNS error.. basicly your router/laptop isnt assigning your PS3 an IP address.

If you have a router goto the routers settings and set the dns to automatic.
This should assign an IP to all devices connected to the router

whats a router, lol, we used broadband modem from 3 and it worked fine before the laptop went away for repair,i hope that helps thanks.

Its a device you stick on the end of your modem, it allows more than one device to conenct to the internet.
looks like this:

The DNS issue is due to a look up table conflict. If you can set your TCPIP v 4 settings to optain IP address automatically and use DNS server automatically, you should be able to connect.

You might need to reconfigure your 3 USB modem settings

Look in the manual :)

ok im not sat at a pc (im on my phone) so im helping from memory. Sounds like you used to have internet connection sharing (ics) enabled before. Basically you were using your laptop as a router. You need to re-enable it. You also need to ensure that dhcp is enabled. That is a setting that will (should) sort all the settings out for you. To be honest, in the future you should probably invest in a router so that you don't have to always have the laptop on and it makes life easier :) bfm

pretty much been covered lol

has ics been enabled ? like BurningFeetMan asked ?

start ,control panel , network connections , right click local area connection , then properties , then advanced , and tick allow others to connect through this computers internet connection , then ok !

you could also go to network and sharing center, left click on "manage network connections" you should see at least 2 connections, one would say "wireless network connection" and the other "Local Area Connection" highlight the two, right-click and bridge connections.

if you aren't connected to a router then your ip should already be set to automatically be found via your cable box, so the problem doesn't seem to be anything to do with your cable box, but before changing any of your settings on your ps3, make sure the cables are all connected correctly, then try following this guide:
