I have been having a strange problem when using IE8 and despite extensive Googling cannot find a solution that works. If I click on certain links from a Google search, frequently Wikipedia pages, instead of the page opening I get a 'Download File' box appear asking 'Do you want to save this file or find a program online to open it?' I can open the same page from an alternative computer so the problem is pc specific. Please don't suggest Firefox!!!

Google Chrome?

1. Click the IE "Tools" menu, or press Alt+T.
2. Choose "Manage Add-ons, " then click "Enable or Disable Add-ons."
3. Select the "Google Dictionary Compression sdch" add-on.
4. Click the 'Disable' radio button, then click "OK."

If the problem exist after this try another browser similar to IE to see if it continues. I use Avant Browser (looks and feels similar to IE without the bugs http://www.avantbrowser.com/ ) Give it a go.

Sorry, this doesn't fix it!
