Computer Issues - Motherboard ?

I'm looking at a PC for a friend, it's an old AMD 2500+, 256mb Ram & 100GB hard Disk, 64mb PCI video.

Everything seems to work OK, apart from the USB ports.

A USB keyboard & Mouse work fine, but as soon as ANY other USB device is plugged in, the keyboard and mouse disable.

I've tried all the USB ports, front and back both with the same effect.

To test if it's the OS, I've booted a live Ubuntu CD and this had the exact same issue.

Any Ideas ?

I think the motherboard is starting to fail..but replacing that, would probably mean having to replace CPU, ram & video.. would we be better getting a newer PC ?

Thanks

USB ports often go on mobos. To solve the issue just buy a cheap 4 port USB PCI card rather than a whole new pc ;-)

Yep mine have issues solved this with an old card. Outputs fine, inputting information unstable.
