Computer problem

Not sure if this is very bad but here goes

I downloaded a more recent version of XP onto my old computer, it installed pretty much fine but after installation when i went on my user the screen went blue and it said something like windows has shut down to prevent serious damage, please open in safe mode, so i go into safe mode and attempt to do a system restore, but there are no points avaiable for the restore, even though on normal mode there was, also i can't delete it from the add/remove programmes list. Any ideas?

Theres nothing other than Windows on the HDD right? Why not just format and re-install?

Firstly, are you sure the XP disk you burned is OK? ie "proper"

Adjust the computer's bios to boot to the cd, and follow the instructions basically

A pretty easy job really, but not one that i personally would undertake at 11.45 at night ;-)

Perhaps sticking the disk in again and then clicking repair to the current xp installation might fix it..

Could be something in your pc going bust though -depending on what the BSOD said.

Restart the comp and press F12 or F2 or whatever it is on your computer as soon as it boots up(it says on the screen though what the button is)

Then set it to boot from the cd first instead of the hdd
