afternoon!
my holiday is next month and have a bit of a dilema! my flight is at 9 in the morning so i have to be at the airport at 6am which means leaving my house at about 4.30-4.45am to get there on time.
my dad would drive me there but he'll be looking after my kids for the week and it's too early to drag them out and all the way to birmingham before school. the first train of the day would get me there 40 minutes too late so it's either a taxi or stay at a hotel nearby (i have a lift there the day before if needed). they both cost roughly the same so i'm not sure which'll be best
which option would you pick?

If they cost the same I'd go for the hotel, means more time sleeping.

hotel, having missed a flight out on my honey moon being in a hotel nearby was a god send for our flight the next day. It felt more like a holiday than a grind to an aiport.

hotel, the holiday can start then!

hotel, as your only moments away from the airport, if you were to get a taxi in the morning anything could happen and they could even forget/be late.

plus as allready posted, you would get longer in bed :D

Definitely stay at the hotel if its roughly the same cost. We did this couple of years ago for Glagow Airport (I stay in Edinburgh). We stayed at the hotel right at the airport - got up early went over the road and checked in with the luggage then went back over to the hotel and had breakfast. Walked back over at our leisure in time just to walk through passport control etc ready for take off. So much easier than stressing about getting there then hanging around the airport for ages.

you dont have to be at the airport 3 hours before. 2 hours is more than enough

for a small fee, me and the missus would put you up for the night, live 5 mins from bhx .....

Stay at home an extra night with the kids and get a taxi if you're away for a week. I guess it depends on their ages. Also are you going alone would you want to be in a hotel by yourself or going with friend. Whilst stopping in a hotel is great certainly its an extra days holiday, you do have to consider your luggage a bit more.
Either way have a great time, bet the kids will love being with grandad.

i'm going with my mum, dad decided earlier in the year that he though i needed a break (been on my own with my girls for about 4 years now) so he offered to babysit as he's recently retired so i could go away :) my first proper holiday in years, think that is why i'm worrying about the little details so much! cant wait!

:w00t: I would definitely do that again without hesitation for an early flight. It was cheap as well and totally worth it.

Where are you off to missp anyway? Or have I missed that somewhere? Forget that - just saw above. Have a fab time - my mate went to Egypt but had to do the sightseeing at 5am as it gets too hot otherwise! Leaves you time to chill by the pool after that.

That's great, you will both have a great time, your mum will love having a girly holiday too! Kids are a great age to stay with grandad...hope he can cook though. I remember mum going away for a week once with work and my dad cooked beans on toast everyday....

Have a lovely time...try and get a bit of girly pampering time in.
As its you and your mum i would go to the hotel the day before as i am sure your mum will enjoy that too and hopefully you both will be able to start to unwind a bit before the trip.
Have a great time.
By the way i think grandad will love having the responsibility as well.

I know I think Im an amazing friend as well lol :)

I was told that due to the conviction I would have to go to the embassy for an interview but tbh I think its very unlikely that I would get a visa even if I went so will just have to chance it and see how it goes, fingers crossed I get a nice immigraion person who lets me through without asking any questions.

Wow a cruise on the Nile sounds amazing, I love Egypt and would love to go and do the whole touristy things of seeing the pyramids etc.

Have a great time, and defo post some pics when you get back :)

P.S hows the stopping smoking going??Did you try out the inhalator thingy yet?? Im giving up slowly atm as had some stents put in earlier this year so need to give up before I have a heart attack lol

yeah i've heard the only down side to a nile cruise is all the early starts! but to be honest i get up early in the mornings anyway so it shouldn't be too much of a problem :) i love egypt, went there 5 years ago and have been dying to go back, just haven't had the oppotunity till now :)

it's going to be lovely to spend some quality time together with mum :) can't wait!

you should definately do a nile cruise! you get to see so many more places than if you just stay in a hotel, not going to the pyramids though, sailing from luxor to aswan and back again :) i've been to egypt before and fell in love with it there, have been dying to go back ever since! at the moment the one i've booked is a lot cheaper now than what i paid and i thought i had a bargain at the time! don't worry there will be loads of photos :) i'm going on this - http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/614033/thomson-5t-5-star-egypt-nile-cruise
still waiting for the inhalator to arrive, bought it off ebay because it was half the price of the ones in boots, etc should be here in the next day or so, i'll let you know how i get on
