According to the official site here

http://www.xbox.com/en-us/hardware/compare101.htm

Apart form one other thing they appear identical apart from the connections each ships with - headset & other cables which i dont need (got) or will get cheap from the local PC fair.

The other thing being the chart says the Elite plays more games? Is that right that the Arcade can't play some games - (so where in the table is the reason for this elluded to iwonder? - the table is unreliable again?).

I am thinking of getting a console & know zip about them really...whats the score on pirated games...which is easier PS3 or xbox?

Bin back to edit it so i dont look uber daft! :D

I think basically, the Elite has a HDD and the arcade has limited builtin capacity(but no HDD) - if I were you go for the Elite and then you dont have to worry

What is capacity? You mean CPU, or memory or software limits?

Sorry where in the link does it say the arcade has bigger HD then the elite? the arcade has 256MB built in the elite has 120GB Hard Drive

Both consoles play the same games but the elite can have extra addons downloaded on to it that the arcade does not have the space to download them, also the elite can download games from xbox live the arcade cant unless you buy a HD, that answer your question?

he means the built in memory is only 256Mb, so limited bu that, 1/2 of that is for the new update and 30mb for your profile, so then you hve about 90mb for save games, you cant put other things on there, the elite you can just keep putting stuff on there.
TBH, I would get the arcade if you can find it cheap and buy a sperate HD for it, the Elite is over priced

Also confused. can the kids put the 20gb removable hard drive from our old broken x box on a new x box arcade?

yes they can unless the HD is broken, as long as they are both xbox 360 and not just xbox ;)

For example, extra levels for games, new game modes, music CD that you make into MP3 to listen to instead of the game music, Demo's (so you can try gmes b4 you buy) etc

sooo the 256Mb is memory not HDD? No idea what the new update is..you mean something is loaded onto half that 256Mb like err something from BIOS?

The 256mb is memory Stick built into the 360 (so not a HD, more like chip memory), It can be used like a Hard Drive but is to small to really do anything with. the new update is something that came out nearly a year ago, and the reason why they put 256mb of memory into the console, so everyone can have it, it makes the user interface look pretty and gives you an avatar like the Wii has etc,
Jsut abotu to go out to will answer anything else a bit later, and thanks for the thanks i did see it lol
just going to hopefully win in the pub quiz lol

Thanks for the reply again buddy. OK so i think I've got the handle on everything thats been said...I think you know I'd rather go for an Elite because I've been reading about different games and I've seen mention of different Modes and Levels. And the type of games i'm interested are the complicated ones..like Dragon Age: Origins...so I think the added £ would be worthwhile to get the most out of something I'd be spending a lot of time on...and time is our most precious asset.

If you think thats wrong do get back to me other wise hope you win the pub quiz and be seein you around! :) Repped you earlier too.

Its up to you which one you get, but a Arcade version and a seprate Hard Drive is the same as an elite, so here is a rough breakdown

Elite = round £199
Arcade + Hard Drive = £110 + (60Gb HD) £35 or (120Gb HD) £50 so either £145 or £160,

There is no difference apart from the colour od the console, the elite comes with 120Gb HD, but most would not use all that, the thing is the arcade has come down in price but the elite has not yet.

Hope that helps.

Humm...thanks buddy...even more info to chew over

Yeah, you can buy Xbox 360 hard drives seperately.

Given the pricecuts on Arcades (down to £105 at GAME with a voucher), getting one and a hard drive is cheaper than getting an Elite.

Plus, the 360 looks a bajillion times better in white than black! ;)
